The media brings about a lot of things:
1. Hard feelings.
2. Nonsense.
3. Unsupported Facts.
4. More nonsense.
5. People who don't understand that I do not have to agree with them.
I don't want to argue, I just want to talk.
It makes me sad. Everyday I get on a different social networking site and someone else is going back and forth slandering someone's name because they don't agree with them. I see another person who decided to let the argument get between a 15 year friendship. I see memes that make people get in their feelings and so heartbroken on the fact that, "So-and-so said this! Can you believe she thinks like that!"
I don't want to argue, I just want to talk.
I find that conversing doesn't happen anymore. Too many people take things way too personally. I'm all for expressing values and beliefs, and I understand that standing up for what you believe is right! What I will never understand is how saying two words different than your two words starts an argument. Get passionate, matter of fact, STAY PASSIONATE! But teach through these things. Do you really think you'll convince someone to go along with your opinion if you're slandering and disrespecting them? Do you really think that calling them out, and telling your friends about their "wrong" opinion is going to help? Do you really think that going on and on about how stupid they are because they don't agree with you will bring about change?
I don't want to argue, I just want to talk.
There's a reason God made us different. There's a reason I don't look like they do. There's a reason that my skin is a little bit darker than hers, yet a little bit lighter than his. There's a reason I can write a paper, but they can memorize formulas for days. We were all made different — beautiful, but different. If we were all the same, there would be no room for the originality we all claim to have! If we all thought the same way, we wouldn't be substantial; We would be walking clones. We would be simple minded. We would not have the God given capability we humans have.
I don't want to argue, I just want to talk.
So allow me to have my opinion, and you have yours. Don't get upset with me, teach me. Teach me about why you're thinking about what you're thinking. Teach me why what I think could be problematic may not be. Teach me why your thought process would be effective. Teach me about your core fundamental values. I want to hear you out. I want to know what goes on in that head of yours. I want to learn about the wheels that turn, and how fast they turn. I want to learn about what I don't understand. The only way we will grow in knowledge and become well rounded individuals if we stop and learn about what we don't agree with.
I don't want to argue, I just want to talk.
