Last week I was in therapy, talking a mile a minute, too anxious about, well, everything to even take a breath. "Hey," my therapist stopped me. "Let me tell you a little secret: no one else has their shit together in college either."
That kid in your 8:30 organic chem class who has her entire life mapped out until 20 years post-grad? She's not even sure she'll be accepted into the graduate school she's banking on. The boy who has been prepping for the LSAT since 9th grade? He changed his major halfway through junior year after realizing he doesn't actually care that much about law, but he loves writing.
You're barely an adult right now. Nobody expects you to know exactly where your life is headed. In fact, if you think you know exactly what your future holds, you're probably at a disadvantage, because when something unexpected comes your way, you won't be prepared to handle it. That's exactly what college allows you to figure out: how to handle what life throws at you.
Let yourself explore. Take a course you would never have considered before. Go out on a Thursday night with your friend instead of studying for that art history quiz that accounts for .05% of your grade, for a class that you're only taking because it's university-required elective.
You don't need a 4.0. You don't need to join every single club or organization. You don't need to go to the gym every single day or have a part-time job. You most definitely do not need to be on your game, put-together, and impeccably dressed every hour of every single day.
It's okay to be confused, tired, frustrated, and honestly, a little lazy in college. I swear you're not the only one. You'll get to where you're meant to be eventually. In the meantime, enjoy the journey you take to get there. And don't stress because you feel like you're the only fish swimming aimlessly against the current while everyone else seems to be charging towards their individual destinies. We're all kind of lost, sitting in bed eating mac 'n' cheese straight from the pot at 3 AM, listening to Chance the Rapper, and trying not to cry about the inevitable future.
