Hot Rod is one of the most important movies in my life, and I think it should be for anyone. There’s love, there’s laughs, and there is an honest character just trying to save his step-dad by doing super dangerous (and surprisingly legal) stunts.
Here are five reasons we should all try to be a little more like Rod Kimble:
1. He did what he loved and never let his failures stop him.
Now I didn’t say he was the best, but who believed in himself and survived every crash?
That’s right.
2. He resolves his anger in the best way possible.
Punch dancing his rage out in a dimly lit forest: Genius. Thanks for bringing that one back.
3. He really does love his step-dad.
Okay so maybe it doesn’t look like it, but under all that pent up rage is just a boy who wants to earn his stepdad's approval. Plus, would you go out of your way to raise $50,000 for someone you don’t care about? Unlikely.
4. He really loves his brother, no matter what.
Maybe they’re not the most functional family, but at the end of the day, it’s all cool beans.
5. He showed us what it really meant to be too legit to quit.
Stay true to who you are and what you want to become. As Denise put it, he didn’t sell out. Nothing is worse that not being true to yourself.
Now I'm not telling you how to live your life, but Hot Rod sure taught me how to live mine.
