It's Not Just A Sorority

It's more than you think

It's Not Just A Sorority

It’s not just fun and games all day long. Although yes you see us posting fun pictures of us doing fun things, that’s not always what it is. Its decision making and some people not getting what they want. It’s going through hard times, but always knowing who to turn to. It’s being so stressed that you never think you’ll make it, but then a sister lends a helping hand.

It’s definitely not partying and seeing who can drink the most. In fact, it’s frowned upon to see who can get the drunkest. Although yes, we have parties and we are “allowed” to drink, we are strongly encouraged to be mindful of what we are doing and how it could affect us in the long run.

It’s not seeing who can get with the hottest guys or even who the prettiest girls are. A sisterhood is built on so much more than being “pretty”. It’s about values, some that my sisters and I hold close to our hearts. Things like graciousness and excellence. These are the things we look for in our women, not who had the skinniest body or the shiniest hair.

No, we are not paying for our friends. While being in a sorority is a really expensive group, our money doesn’t go to our friendships. Our money goes to things like philanthropies and our budget so we can do things. It goes to paying for our house so that we have a place to live. Very little goes into the social aspect.

It’s not trying to jazz up your resume. Although, being in a sorority has its perks on your resume, that’s not solely why we do it. We actually enjoy giving back to the community and supporting our philanthropy. Not because we have to, but because we care.

No we are not stuck up little brats. We are kind, smart, genuine women who want to empower other women to be the same. We want to lift each other up and rise above being “stuck up”.

Yes, they are my sisters and that’s just what I will call them. Each and every one has their own special qualities and that’s what makes us a family, a sisterhood. That’s why they are my sisters and why I love them.

No, it’s not like the movies. We do have formals and date nights, and various other things we do. But I can 110% guarantee that our sorority isn’t like what you’ve seen in movies.

Yes I’m always wearing my letters, and that’s just fine by me. No matter what, I will be a positive figure, one who wears the emerald and gold and the letters AST and I will do so with pride. I will forever love my letters, and my sisters.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
