Hi.
It's as simple as that.
You want to make friends and have new opportunities or exciting adventures? Just say hi. Every hi is the beginning of something new. Just one simple hi and a smile could spark an incredible conversation, friendship, relationship, or experience. Never miss out on your life by keeping to yourself and being afraid to appear.. I don't know, friendly?
Why is being friendly something to be ashamed of these days? What's wrong with sticking around to hold the door for eight strangers walking behind you? Why can't a person acknowledge the only other human being walking past them on their way to their next endeavor? I'm not sure if it's just me, but I really don't enjoy the uncomfortableness of feeling as though I don't exist when I'm alone with a stranger in an elevator.
Some use their geographic background to excuse their social behavior in public. But I don't care if you'e from the North or the South. You should always be kind to anyone and everyone you come across.
Hi. I am alive and so are you. Hope you're doing well.
It's not awkward, it's adventurous. Each person you interact with is like another adventure. You never know where it could go or how it could shape you as an individual.
I think people are so inwardly-focused whereas our society is all about appearance and status and is always so outwardly-focused. This combination makes interacting in social situations with strangers "awkward". We are so wrapped up in ourselves but at the same time we worry about what other people will think of us (whether we'll admit to it or not).
Just one word, hi, or a smile, or even a friendly acknowledgement of some sort could make someone else's day. Never limit yourself to only interacting with the people you "know" or who are just like you. Branch out. Put yourself out there and take risks. You have nothing to lose!
