Just One of the Guys: Things All Female Bros Have Come to Know

Ever since I was six years old, my best friends have always been guys. Yes, I do have close female friends as well; however, for the most part, I spend my time hanging out with my boys. If you’re like me, then these are some things you most definitely understand.

Being best friends with guys is not for the most sensitive of girls.

In my experience, my male friends tend to say what they’re thinking without a filter, and even though what they say may hurt your feelings a bit, that most likely wasn’t their intention.

The stereotype is actually right.

Guys actually do have less drama in their group than females (based on my experiences). I’ve seen much less in-fighting and he-said-she-said go back and forth when I hang out with my bros than my girls.

They will always have your back.

Whether it be helping me steer away from creeps at parties or standing up for me if they hear something bad said about me, they are loyal to the end.

You get to be a wingwoman.

I have learned the art of this all-important skill over the years.

People will have misconceptions.

Occasionally you will meet that person, male or female, who thinks that it isn’t possible for men and women to just be friends (cue "When Harry Met Sally") or believes that you have had sexual relationships with one or more of your bros because “you guys can’t just be best friends without something else going on.” I hate to break it to you, but platonic relationships between opposite sexes exist, and they are some of the best relationships I have ever had.

Even though you’re like one of the guys, you aren’t.

You may be included in the group as one of the bros, but they do treat you differently. They share different things with you than they would with some of the guys. They confide in you sensitive and deep information that they may feel uncomfortable talking about with the bros. You are their outlet.

To all my other female bros, keep on playing "Modern Warfare," watching countless superhero movies, drinking Natty Light on weekends, and don’t give a damn about what others think.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
