Starting up a new semester usually means getting back into your routine. The routine of life. A crazy cycle of classes, meetings, studying, socializing, and sleeping. We get sucked into our routine because it is what we know, what we are comfortable with. We do what we know will get the ideal outcome. We have learned from experience and now live in that cycle. But not this semester. I think it's time we make a change, throw away "routines" and start getting out of the comfort zones we are so very used to. Be spontaneous. Do something you said you never would (within reason), and make the most of the best years of your life.
It is rare that we voluntarily step out of our comfort zones, because we are afraid. We are in fear. Fear of embarrassment. Fear of rejection. Fear of awkwardness. You see, we sort of live in fear. That is why it is actually terrifying to get out of the routine we are comfortable with. We are scared of what is going to happen, because we honestly have no clue what is to come after taking that first step into the unknown. The unknown is intimidating and it isn't easy by any means. And it's no secret that it isn't always going to go your way, but that's okay. Well, now is the time to get rid of that fear. Stop running away from fear and face it head on.
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7
Y'all, God does not want us to be comfortable!! He didn't make us to be timid or live in fear, he gave us strength. He calls us into the depths of life. It is only there where the difference is made. Life truly begins at the edge of our comfort zone. Because even if it is scary, He is going to pull you through it, and everything is going to work out in the end. God doesn't call us to just survive, He calls us to thrive. And he gives us the power to do so! He is our protection, safety net, rock to lean on, supporter, and friend, and that should fuel you up with courage. Courage to take on this world by storm.
So say "see ya" to the fears you have, and leap out of your comfort zone this semester. Do something crazy in the spur of the moment, and do it with zeal. Go on an adventure. Ask that girl you think is cool to hang out. Go on a Fuego run with your best friends at 2 a.m. Go out and play in the rain. Escape routine. Take a risk, life is too short not to anyways. Do everything with strength and love, and know that God is on your side and will be there for you through it all. See you in the depths.
