I can be a really indecisive person, sometimes. I'm the type of person that can change his mind ten times over on a trivial, little thing. That being said, it baffled me for a while hearing people say that they know for sure that they have a few artists labeled as their all-time favorites. I was never really sure about a favorite artist because my interests shifted and I never really felt too strongly about it. That is, until one late night doing homework in my dorm's lounge, my friend and I listened to "All Time Low" by Jon Bellion. It was so different at the time that it caught my attention and we spent the rest of the night exploring his music. Now, a little over a year later, I can call him my favorite artist with confidence.
Look at this glorious specimen.
You see, he's like a monster under your bed, because he's always been there. His sound is as distinct and robust as a trumpet. The thing is, you might not know his name but I guarantee that you've jammed out to some of his work at one time or another. He wrote the hook for The Monster by Eminem and Rihanna, plus he also co-wrote and produced Trumpets by Jason Derulo.
That's right, you've already been playing some of his creations on loop.
Beside those two songs, he's also released four self-performed and produced mixtapes - most of which you can find on his Soundcloud - and just recently released his debut album, The Human Condition, not to mention the four acoustic covers he's done of his songs as well as a handful of others that weren't put on a specific album or mixtape. As of now, he's going on his third tour. He's achieved a lot since releasing his first mixtape, Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1 just a few years ago, in 2011.
I love Jon Bellion's music and I throw his name to anyone looking for something new to listen to because his music is so defined and, to put it simply, his music sounds and feels good. His lyrics are so different and the songs are so easy to jam to because the music carries you into them. There's such a variety in his music that it's really hard to not find a song you'll like. He can go from the raps of Jim Morrison to the heart-wrenching ballad of New York Soul to the hype jam "All Time Low," which he recently perfected on The Human Condition.
He's the knight that will save you from the everyday music.
Jon Bellion isn't really the same artist in every collection of songs that he puts out. His style can even change dramatically from song to song. Still, it remains that he's an amazing, gripping, immensely talented artist. My previously mentioned friend and I have bonded over his music and I'm determined to get some money together so that I can buy a ticket to his show in Detroit next month. Might as well try and get them now before he starts selling out stadiums.
