Joining A Sorority Freshman Year Helped Me More Than Just Socially And For That, I Am Grateful

It is so much more than "buying your friends."

One of the most repeated sentences I hear when talking about joining a sorority is "Oh, you're just paying for people to be friends with you."

From my perspective, that couldn't be more wrong.

Being in a sorority is so much more than the friends that you make, although it is definitely is a big plus. My sorority really is one big sisterhood that has become my second family. These girls don't have to say that they love you and care for you, so when they do, you know they mean it. I definitely wouldn't be the same person I am today and the person I'm going to become in the future if it weren't for the girls in my chapter. I have already felt so many benefits since joining my sorority, and I can't wait to see how I will continue to benefit from these girls.

Life isn't always going to be perfect during the college years. There will be failed assignments, broken hearts, and other types of crises that could come about at any moment. One of the best thing about joining a sorority that I have countless people that I could call up at any moment and these girls will rush to be by my side to support me during whatever I am going through. Whether it is a simple hug, going shopping, or wiping tears there is going to be someone there who is willing to be there. I think its amazing the lengths the girls in my sorority will go for each other. It's truly incredible.

I joined a sorority during a time when I was at one of my lowest places mentally. The girls have been there for so many tears and breakdowns. They have told me all the good things about me, and how much worth I brought to this world when I felt like I didn't have anything to offer. They have encouraged me through the hard times as I worked to get myself to be in a better place. I don't know what I would be like if it wasn't for the support system I had through meeting these girls.

In high school, I was involved in a lot of volunteer work so I wasn't sure going into college how I was going to be able to keep that up. Each sorority has an issue/charity that they are passionate about and dedicate their time to raise money and awareness for their cause. If it wasn't for my joining my particular sorority/chapter, I would honestly have had no clue about our organization that we work with and hold events for. Now that I have gotten the opportunities to work for this cause, I am becoming very passionate about it and I look forward to the different philanthropy events that my sorority holds on campus.

Sororities also push being involved with each other's philanthropies, as well as, other campus organization events that are held for charity. It really pushes you to be more involved in your campus, as well as, with charity work and I feel like I am a better person because of it.

I am so grateful because of how my sorority pushes me academically, philanthropically, and to get more involved with my school. Without these girls pushing me to be the best version of myself that I can be, I don't know where I would be in life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
