When it comes to Salve Regina University, there are a lot of things that you can do to help pass the time. There is the beautiful cliff walk which really only counts on nice days because let’s be honest, no one is going down there when it is less that forty degrees out. You could also go down to Miley and play pool, which is fun, I guess. Last semester the pool balls went missing halfway through the semester so then you either provide your own pool balls or you play imaginary pool, both are fun but you can find something more fun. You can sit in your bed and watch Netflix, but what do you do after you finished a series? Do you get my point here?
All of these activities have drawbacks, but you know what does not have a drawback? Joining a club, specifically the Salve Regina University Campus Activities Board. Besides the fact that you get to hang out with me, it is endless fun and will never get old. There are tons of people so making friends will be a breeze, there are a bunch of different committees so you are bound to find something that you like, and there are always amazing events for you to go to if you ever get bored.
As a member of the Campus Activities Board (aka CAB) at school, it has honestly been one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Salve. The Campus Activities Board is in charge of all of the super-awesome, very cool, events that go on throughout the year. From the spring concert to trips to New York, CAB plans and executes all of it. That little key-chain with the picture of you and your best friend? That was a “Thing for Thursday,” which was planned by CAB. Remember when Jodie Sweetin came and spoke? That was CAB. That big Halloween dance in Ochre? CAB. Needless to say, they do a lot for the students at Salve, and I love being a part of it.
A lot of college kids think that they are too cool for clubs and that they do not need clubs to have an awesome college experience. While there are some people who can successfully fulfill this statement, a majority of students cannot. We need a club to go to, something that involves us in the goings-on around campus. Whether it is a club team, a female empowerment group, or a club based on your major, whatever it is all college students need to somehow get involved in a club.
So why am I trying to push CAB so much? Because in CAB, there is a place for everyone. If you are interested in bringing more comedy to campus, or you think that it would be fun to give away free hats every Thursday, whatever it is there is an event that you can help out with. By being on CAB, you have opened a door to the real world. Everything is student planned, and run, no one is helping you, you are helping each other. It makes you part of a team and pushes you to work really hard because everyone around you is working super hard to make sure the event goes well. CAB is about what makes the students happy and to be a part of that makes me happy.
Whatever it is that you do in college, as long as it means something to you, and makes you happy, then that is all that matters. But I know what would make you extremely happy and that is joining CAB. Even if you do not want to join CAB, then at least go to their events.
