Following the events of the first movie, John Wick hopes to retire to a simple life after getting revenge from those who have stolen what mattered most to him. However, he soon finds himself back in the business as a hitman, traveling across the world to fulfill a mission. In the end, there was a gripping conclusion that left me hungry for more. Directed by Chad Stahelski, “John Wick: Chapter 2” is a great continuation of the first film. Here are seven reasons why.
1. You Can See The Sequel Before Seeing The First
The first five minutes of “John Wick: Chapter 2” include a clever synopsis of the first movie. The audience is not given any wiggle room at the start because what follows is an action-packed scene to show off just how badass John Wick is.
2. No Animals Were Harmed
Don’t lie. I cried during the first film too. I was afraid that something would happen to John’s new companion the entire time. However, you’ll be happy to know that no dogs were murdered in this film.
3. Higher Body Count
“John Wick: Chapter 2” has gained more of two things: ammunition and death. As a professionally trained hitman, John Wick gets his hands dirty way more than the last movie. Rest assured that shots were fired everywhere. I was surprised I left the theater with my ears still intact.
4. Characters
I loved the integrity and the abundance of new characters introduced in “John Wick: Chapter 2”. I admired the underground homeless man and his pigeons. I fell in love with the sister that refused to die at the hands of another. There was even an assassin that spoke sign language. When it comes to slipping more characters into a movie series, this sequel was impressive.
5. Violence
This film is rated R for violence, nudity, and language. It’s safe to say that when you mess with a trained killer, you’ll get the bullet or the blade. John Wick proved that he would do anything and everything for justice and revenge, even if it meant travelling halfway across the world to settle a business that he just wanted to retire from.
6. Comic Relief
I had a better laugh watching this film rather than the first. I’m not sure if it was because “John Wick” carried a serious and depressing story line, but the sequel packed a bigger punch in terms of both violence and comedy. Let alone it’s hilarious to think that hitmen cannot settle anything without some sort ammunition. It might just be me, but what can I say?
7. Keanu Reeves
He’s come a long way in his acting career. Keanu was thoroughly committed in preparing for his character. He looked like he belonged because he was athletically fit for the role. His fighting techniques are fantastic in both films. Overall, his performance was impressive as he continued to make me question how petty a man’s emotions can be, and just how powerful someone can become once their life is threatened.
