I love "love" and I love the idea of loving things. When I was in high school, I read the book, "The Fault in Our Stars" written by the greatest human being on earth, Mr. John Green. The story changed my life, and I, like Hazel Grace, am now am forever in debt to my favorite author. These quotes come from some of the best modern books, and I think people's hearts and souls just have to absorb them.
1. For when you feel like you are hearing more, "You can't's" than "You can's"...
When adults say, "Teenagers think they are invincible" with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don't know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail.
- "Looking for Alaska"
2. For when you lose someone for special...
Thomas Edison's last words were "It's very beautiful over there." I don't know where there is, but I believe it's somewhere, and I hope it's beautiful.
- "Looking for Alaska"
3. For when you feel like your heart could explode from missing someone so much...
You can love someone so much...But you can never love people as much as you can miss them.
- "The Fault in Our Stars"
4. For when you are on the never-ending path of self-discovery...
Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we're quoting.
- John Green
5. For when you realize you were reliant on "love" but "love" had to go,"love" can't come back, maybe "love" really just shouldn't.
What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.
-"Paper Towns"
6. For when the neither the future, nor the past, not present seems like a good time...
Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia. You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you'll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.
-"Looking for Alaska"
7. For when you have to say goodbye, and you just want to cry...
"But I will say this: When the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off, because I do not want to see a world without him." I was kind of crying by then.
-"The Fault in Our Stars"
8. For when you feel like you can't handle it...
I'm not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.
- "Paper Towns"
9. For when you are surrounded by vapid people...
They love their hair because they're not smart enough to love something more interesting.
- "Looking for Alaska"
10. For when you are feeling nostalgic about your hometown...
The town was paper, but the memories were not.
-"Paper Towns"
11. When you forget just how lovely and special you are...
You are so busy being YOU that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are.
- "The Fault in Our Stars"
12. For when you are seeking adventure...
Francois Rabelais. He was a poet. And his last words were "I go to seek a Great Perhaps." That's why I'm going. So I don't have to wait until I die to start seeking a Great Perhaps.
-"Looking for Alaska"
13. For when you feel like reflecting on the past...
You don't remember what happened. What you remember becomes what happened.
- "An Abundance of Katherines"
14. For when you love someone who just doesn't seem to love you back (I feel like Sam Smith Lyrics would fit here as well)...
You like someone who can't like you back because unrequited love can be survived in a way that once-requited love cannot.
- "Will Grayson"
15. For when...I don't know, this is just a really good quote!
Later, after they'd given me something, the nurse came in and she was kind of stroking my head while she took my blood pressure and said, "You know how I know you're a fighter? You called a ten a nine.
But that wasn't quite right. I called it a nine because I was saving my ten. And here it was, the great and terrible ten, slamming me again and again as I lay still and alone in my bed staring at the ceiling, the waves tossing me against the rocks then pulling me back out to sea so they could launch me again into the jagged face of the cliff, leaving me floating faceup on the water, undrowned.
- "The Fault in Our Stars"
16. For when it's clearly time to move forward (and listen to Adele music on repeat)...
When things break, it's not the actual breaking that prevents them from getting back together again. It's because a little piece gets lost -- the two remaining ends couldn't fit together even if they wanted to. The whole shape has changed.
- "Will Grayson"
17. For when you come to peace within and can finally share the struggles that made you "YOU."
You have a choice in this world, I believe, about how to tell sad stories, and we made the funny choice.
-"The Fault in Our Stars"
18. For when you just can't seem to figure someone out...
Margo always loved mysteries. And in everything that came afterward, I could never stop thinking that maybe she loved mysteries so much that she became one.
- "Paper Towns"
I hope after reading this your soul feels a little healed, and you feel a lot of love; because wherever you live, whatever you do, whoever you are, you are loved.
