Endlessly filling out resumes, constantly checking your email, excitedly answering phone calls just to be let down to hear a toll free caller on the other end. The job search season has begun. This stressful time is filled with thoughts of the unknown and the worst part, waiting.
This is true for those searching for permanent jobs and internships alike. It seems to go on in about 8 stages, as told by Rachel Green, who also had issues landing a solid job.
Stage 1: You've gotten older and worked up enough courage to go to the career fair. After all, you know you've got to get on it. Those dreams of your future glam life don't just start themselves.
Stage 2: You just came from the Career Fair with plenty of hope for the future.
Stage 3: Filling out applications explaining why you're the best. They need you and all of your many skills, no matter how strange those may be.
Stage 4: You wait... and wait... and wait. You check your email daily waiting for a phone call that never seems to come.
Stage 5: Just as you've lost hope, the unthinkable happens when you check your phone after failing one of your midterms. You've got an interview!
Stage 6: You try to look as presentable as possible in your 20-year-old clothing. Feeling like a fraud, you find the confidence to show companies exactly what you're about.
Stage 7: Another stage of waiting. Another stage of over-analyzing and thinking about how badly you messed up your interview.
Stage 8: Finally! Finally you receive some form of news and although some of it is bad....
Some is also good because at least one place wants you! You may have a future!
While some of us (especially Grady majors) are still waiting and hoping for those final stages, we remain hopeful. You've come this far, and like Rachel Green, you will eventually be independent and make it in this world doing a job that you love!
"It's like all my life people have been telling me I'm a shoe. You're a shoe, you're a shoe, you're a shoe! But what if I don't want to be a shoe anymore? What if I want to be a purse? Or a hat..."
