“If you have a job that you love, you will never work a day in your life”. Growing up, I heard this saying repeatedly from adults, peers, and educators. For the past three months or so, these words describe exactly how I feel going to work every day as an intern for my college’s admissions office. For the first time in my life, I actually have a job that I love waking up and going to every day. Since joining this job back in March, I feel like I have finally found a job I love doing. I actually look forward to work!
Personally speaking, I have not met better people in my entire life than I have met here at this job. Ever since I started, I feel like I have been welcomed into a family. The atmosphere of this workplace is extremely welcoming and understanding of each other. I truly enjoy the people I work with, whether it be my department or another one down the hall. The energy that’s displayed and drive for success motivates me on a daily basis. I never have a dull day because there is always a new task or project on hand.
Life is truly peculiar because I received an offer for this job almost randomly in my email box back in February. Before I applied for this job, I seriously questioned whether I wanted to take up another job. My other job was becoming a tad boring and stale with no future advancements on the horizon. In the back of mind, I had this strange conviction that there was a reason I was being offered this job and position and that I should at least attend the interview and see what the job entails. Little did I know my future would suddenly change for the better. I thought long and hard about accepting this job position and offer. However, when the person who was interviewing me for the job said “you’ll have a lot of fun,” I pondered in my mind, ‘what 21-year-old college student would turn down that sensational offer’? While I have made serious sacrifices by forgoing extra leisure time, working at this job and school has turned out to be, in my opinion, one of the best decisions of my life. From learning a multitude of new skills and garnering insight that I would not have received at my other job, I have learned and gained future opportunities that will help me excel later in life.
I can totally see myself doing this job—or something similar with this school—for forever if I can. The challenges, tasks, and new opportunities garnered from this job is why I love coming to work daily. Nevertheless, the one striking characteristic of job that endures with me each day as I arrive for work is the people I work with. I have worked at previous jobs where the coworkers were not the most pleasant or helpful to work with. In fact, it felt like a dread going to those dead end jobs. This job on the other hand is the total opposite; everybody cares and helps each other, enjoys what they are doing, and brings a vibrant vibe to the workplace daily. In my opinion, I have one of the best jobs in the world and I feel so lucky and blessed to come to this job every single day for the past three months, and hopefully many years to come.
