Technically, the "Harry Potter" series concluded in 2007 when the last book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," was released, followed by the two-part movie in 2010 and 2011. However, as Harry Potter fans, there is one thing we are certain of - the wizarding world is endless. We also know that J.K Rowling's beautiful, creative, everlasting mind is the wizarding world. She knows everything we have yet to discover and some. There is a long history for every family line, a large variety of magical creatures and an overwhelming amount of magic sweets like the popular Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. Jo knows the backstory of each magical object, celebrity and wand core. It seems that the author wants to hold on to her magical world just as much as we do.
In the series, Harry owns a standard Hogwarts textbook written by Newt Scamander called "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them." Rowling physically wrote the textbook and published it in 2001 to raise money for the Comic Relief Charity. She also wrote the screenplay for a trilogy based on Newt Scamander's adventures, which takes place nearly 70 years before Harry Potter reads the textbook in school. The first film is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2016.
In celebration of the continuous wizarding world and all that we have yet to learn about it, Rowling went to "the digital heart of the Wizarding World" to grant us with an entirely new sector of its existence.
With the upcoming film only months away and a brand new (as of September 2015) Pottermore website, Jo blessed us with the extraordinary history of Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on June 28, 2016. Located in North America, the prestigious school is one of only 11 wizarding schools in the world and is somewhat close to where Newt experiences a new culture and the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) in New York. Are you freaking out yet? Jo is amazing, but wait -- it gets better.
After reading the exhilarating history of Ilvermorny and its founders, Pottermore users can now be sorted into one of the four Ilvermorny houses: Horned Serpent, Wampus, Pukwudgie and Thunderbird. In the wizarding world, there is only one sorting hat, and it remains at Hogwarts. At the entrance hall of Ilvermorny, four wooden carvings that represent each house remain. If they want a student in their house, they each have a distinct action to make it known. This Ravenclaw Pukwudgie suggests creating an account and getting sorted at both Hogwarts and Ilvermorny. Also, my wand is made of Beech wood with a Phoenix feather core, in case you were wondering.
J.K. Rowling is keeping the world of Harry Potter alive. Through theater, film and short stories, we get to learn more about the world inside Jo's brain, which we all crave so desperately. Articles, features and news can be found in her "magical corner of the internet." Pottermore truly is the digital heart of the wizarding world.
"Soon, you’ll be able to find out the form of your Patronus and ponder on what that means," says the Pottermore correspondent. Did you cry? Because I almost did.
