A List to Why Jersey Club is Awesome

Jersey Club is NOT inappropriate!

Jersey Club: an ever-growing genre of music that originates from the beautiful Garden State. Starting only a couple of years ago, the genre has taken off from New Jersey and has spread throughout the United States, even airing internationally.

Residing in New Jersey, being from the town where it all started, Jersey Club music is something that I hold near and dear to my heart. It is a type of music that is somewhat acquired by taste, but even people who cannot dance along to it can watch and be mesmerized by the whole art of Jersey Club.

As it grows, I have noticed many of the older generations, specifically parents, having issues and problems with this genre of music. Upon this discovery, I was initially surprised. Taking a general standpoint looking at Jersey Club, it's like the Cha Cha slide - simply following the artist's whim with each dance move. From a person who considers themselves knowledgeable, It can be slightly inappropriate. But very little to none, if anything.

To the parents, or anyone who thinks that Jersey Club is inappropriate, stupid, immature, or whatever you may think negatively about it - I am going to point you in some bright directions to at least ease your mind and/or show some other perspectives on the matter. Here goes!

1.) It's ALWAYS upbeat

Jersey Club is ALWAYS upbeat. It's meant to be danced to, so there's never a sad song. (I mean, it's a genre of club music, so why would it be sad?) Even if they remixed a sad song, it would be entirely happy!

2.) The Music is innovative!

This genre of music goes a bit heavy-handed on the bass. But if you listen closely, DJ's of Jersey Club tend to use sounds that normal everyday pop artists don't. One of the most used and recognized sounds used in Jersey Club would be the air horn, signaling a change in the music. (Drake ruined it for most Jersey Club DJ's, though). Other sounds also include the cocking of a gun, the shooting of a gun, the squeaking of a spring mattress, and the combination of multiple songs. These sounds are now associated with specifically this genre of music!

3.) It is changing the face of music, and people's lives.

Jersey Club has touched the hearts of all New Jerseyians, and has spread throughout the country. "Watch Me Whip" by Silento, probably the most popularized "Jersey Club" song of all time - the artist himself wasn't even from New Jersey! The app musical.ly has had it's popularity shot up because most users use Jersey Club music within their activity. Even at the Korean Music Awards, Jersey Club played and some K-Pop stars even danced along!

4.) It brings people together.

Lots of my friends share Jersey Club as a common interest. As I continue to go to venues where they play Jersey Club, my world becomes more expansive. For example, at my college we have an event called, "Meet The Greeks", where people who are interest in Greek Life come check out Greek orgs on campus. The DJ every year always plays Jersey Club, because some orgs stroll, which basically a set dance routine to any Jersey Club music. Through this event, I got to meet my older sister's friend that go to a completely different school because they saw me stroll for my org. That is one miniscule example of how Jersey club has brought me to meet and become close with so many people of all walks of life.

5.) It's fun.

The whole point, of Jersey Club is to solely - have fun. Incorporating the upbeat feel, the dancing, and innovativness - it all equals fun! Everyone can get into it if you love to dance, love to listen to music, and simply have a good time!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
