Christmas is upon us, and it is time to spread some Christmas cheer. Taking a much-needed break from school and spending time with family is what every college kid wants at this point in the year. Yes, you get presents, but it is much more than that. You get to make memories with the ones you love. For me and my family, we have a strong family tradition this time of the year.
Christmas Eve is spent making all the goodies we eat Christmas morning. The menu for Christmas morning at the Ishee house contains sausage balls and orange crescent rolls, and they are to die for. No one goes hungry on Christmas morning at our house! Just before bed, we open up one present from Mom and Dad. We have books that we read. My mom's favorite book at Christmas is Mr. Willoughby's Christmas Tree. Mom gets to read that book. I read the Night Before Christmas, and my sister reads Santa's Toy Shop.
When my sister and I were younger, we used to wake up super early, but now that we are older, we sleep in and, last Christmas I even had to be woken up. Our presents are set up on either side of the tree. I am on the left side, and my sister is on the right side.
The one thing about Christmas that I look forward to is all the good food and having my family together. I get to see my aunt, uncle, and my cousins. It is always a very interesting time when the whole family comes together. In the morning, my grandparents come over and open up their presents from us and eat breakfast with us. After we open up all our presents, we head to my Nana and Popa's house.
Nana makes Christmas lunch. Our menu choices change each year. We usually have biscuits and gravy, steak and baked potato, or lasagna. This year we are having lasagna. It is all homemade and all so yummy.
While you open your presents on Christmas day in a warm house with your family, I want you to think of the people who are less fortunate. If you do not get something you ask for, do not get mad at Santa or your parents; be thankful for what you have. Christmas is not just about the presents. It is about family memories and the importance of our faith.
So I wish you a Merry Christmas! Be thankful for the ones that are around you, and let them know that you love them and care for them. Remember kids, Santa is still watching!
