We all care too much.
There's something to be said for the sensitive people, or the people with kind hearts. However, thats not who I'm talking about. I'm talking about caring more about other peoples' opinions of you, than your own opinion of yourself.
We care too much about our online appearance and making sure it looks like we don't make mistakes and we all live this perfect life. It's a joke, honestly. Who in their right mind lives a life where they don't mess up or make a fool of themselves? We care too much and it's really not that serious.
The kicker of it all is we like to pretend like we don't care. It's so funny how petty we all are. It's okay to care. It's okay to make that less popular choice if thats what you want. It's okay to stay home and read a book instead of going to that party. It's okay to laugh and have fun and make a fool of yourself. Who's going to look back on that completely staged Instagram picture and be like, "Oh yeah, that was one of the best nights of my life."
As my favorite author, Sarah Dessen said, “We make such messes in this life, both accidentally and on purpose. But wiping the surface clean doesn't really make anything any neater. It just masks what is below. It's only when you really dig down deep, go underground, that you can see who you really are.”
She hits the nail on the head — everyday we're all just covering everything up and putting on a show of what we want people to see because we care so much. However, deep down, thats where the good stuff is. The real people, instead of the masquerade of filters and group texts and the front you put up when you walk through your campus.
