It is that time of the year. You're watching all of your friends walk across that stage and receive their diplomas. They're moving on with their lives and you could not be more proud of them, but you are not up there with them. You were in college for the same number of years and put in just as much hard work, but they are done and you are stuck for another year.
I'm here to tell you that although I wish I was tossing my graduation cap in the air with them, I am thankful that I do not have to grow up yet. Not only is it hard to cram every class you need for your degree in four years, but how are you supposed to know what you want to major in at the young and tender age of 18? It took me two years to declare a major that I finally decided to stick with, and if I was not so far in my degree plan I would probably change it again.
There are many advantages to not graduating on time. You do not have to figure out what you are wanting to do so early in life. College is fun, and you get the privilege of enjoying it for longer than four years. Your friends have adult jobs now, so lunch is on them.
So to all of you not graduating this year that should be: keep your chin up. You will be walking across that stage in no time. Take advantage of your college years. People say all of the time to do everything you can while you are still young, you will be married with kids before you know it. We're just taking their advice. The years spent in college is a special time and you will never get them back and will miss them when they are gone. Enjoy your victory lap!
