It's Not My March, And I Am Not A Feminist

I'm not afraid to admit it.

I am a woman, and that was not my march. I am a female, and I and not a feminist. Quite frankly I’m sick of this shit.

Modern feminism is no longer about equality, It’s about dominance, not only over men, but over all other females who have the audacity to have their own opinions. I’ve heard the argument that feminism is a “movement for equality,” but refuse to look at issues that men have as well, doesn’t sound so equal to me.

If the movement is supposed to be creating equality, why aren’t these women talking about this issues that men have as well? I believe in the traditional values. I believe the man is the head of the household. I believe that females are equal to men, in today’s society. It’s the 21st century, and women have never been more respected than now.

I believe that God's love is equal for each and every one of us. The definition of feminism is: “The advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.” I have yet to see a feminist bring up any stats about men, and standing up for their rights as well. I just see a bunch of women pissing and moaning because they aren't getting their way.

For the feminist who will bring up the wage gap: in the United States, it is against the law to pay women less than men. I know exactly what they (feminists) would say next… “A woman makes 77 cents to a man’s dollar,” when, in reality, it’s just that women end up choosing lower paying jobs than men.

Someone who is a teacher or a sales associate, can’t expect to make the same wages than a nurse or engineer makes. Another word feminists bring up is “patriarchy.” And that a male dominated society would not have allowed women to vote, receive equal pay, or run for political office. To that, I say women have had the right to vote for 95 years, and have had equal pay for 52 years.

Most women who are marching have never experienced true patriarchy.

Now, I will bring up “pro-choice." This one gets tricky. I do believe that women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy in certain circumstances. But, those circumstances need to be specific.

An abortion should not as easily accessible as it is, and I truly believe that. You are taking a life away from a human being. A living, thriving human being, and you should be responsible. In certain cases, I do believe that an abortion is necessary. But only in those circumstances.

Feminists claim that chivalry is dead, yet when he offers to cut your grass, fix a leaky pipe, maybe even work on your car, everyone is all for it! But if he offers to pick up your tab at dinner, or walk you to your car… it’s automatically seen as disrespect to feminists. Because they are independent, self-sufficient women who can take care of themselves. They want a man to sweep them off their feet, but they can’t let him be a gentleman.

I strongly believe that feminism is a load of crap and we as women can make a change in so many other ways, and make a change to things that are more important.

I think of myself as a strong woman, who knows what she wants. Let’s think realistically. It’s a balancing act, men need women, just as much as women need men. I’m all about standing up for yourself and voicing your opinions. Because after all we are all entitled to our own beliefs. We need to stand together and be equal, and not create something out of nothing. I am a woman, and that was not my march. I am a female, and I am not a feminist.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
