Another marathon is coming my way, but this time, it's all about Marvel. I'm low-key a little dorky. I'm definitely one of those people that would like to go to comic conventions, but I honestly had never been to one. If you haven't seen any of Marvel's movies... my dear friend, you are missing out on the action and the hot men. Ugh. The men. It kills me.
Though, superheroes in movies like The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are not like the heroes we have today. You can be your own hero. You can conquer the world and the save the day by living the life you deserve. Not only can you be a hero, but our heroes today are the ones that do fight and save our lives. Those heroes are firefighters, policemen, the Navy, the Air Force and the army. These are the heroes that will be there for us whenever we need them.
How else can you be a hero? An act of a good deed or any form of kindness is a heroic act. How about those who create shelters for those who lost their families, friends and home? Or those who have shelters for the ones who need to run away to be safe from an abusive partner? There are humans who volunteer their time to help those in need. We are the heroes of our time.
Did you know we actually save lives every day? Think about your organization for a moment or yourself personally. How many times have you been asked by a cashier at a store if you'd like to donate a dollar towards a foundation in need? That was just a moment of heroism. You saved a life. How about all those times you donated plasma to earn 50 dollars? Yes, you get paid, but that plasma can go to a life. Are you an organ donor? You gave someone a kidney who needed it to live.
We are all heroes in our own time. Don't base of heroism as the stereotypes you see in movies. Those hot men that we drool over in Marvel's movies are heroes, but not the ones that we get to experience today. There can be that bit of kindness in each of us. All we have to do is learn to find it. If we all gather our priorities... one day this world will be at peace. All it takes is that bit of heroism in us. We don't need ultimate strength or power to be amazing. Just be your average self. Unless you're Donald Trump. That's a different story, though.
"I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people." -Maya Angelou
