Being kind to one another is not hard. It does not take a lot of energy. It does not take commitment. It does not take anything away from you.
Being compassionate for each other is not a familiarity to us today. We take pride in hating each other on social media. We take pride in being promoted and rubbing it in other people's faces. We take pride in making each other miserable, and for what reason?
Stomping on your neighbor's yard will not make yours any greener.
For some reason, we get a thrill from stepping on each other's toes to get to the top. The constant need to one-up everyone is sickening. At the end of the day, we're all human. We all sleep on the beds we make. We all breathe the same air and bathe in the same water. So what makes us think we might be more special than someone else?
We were all brought into the world the same way, and we will all leave the same way.
It's astonishing at how much happiness you can bring other people by simply holding the door. We were all put here to share space, not to pull it, push it, or destroy it from under each other's feet. Being kind to someone means they will be kind back to you. There is nothing in the world more satisfying than that.
Being kind to others is being kind to yourself.
You owe it to yourself to be kind. You owe it to yourself to be the best person you can be. Give compliments as you are given compliments. We all complain about how horrible society is when we are the ones making it that way. We have stopped worrying about those who matter to us. We only worry about ourselves.
Even if we disagree it doesn't mean we have to degrade one another.
It doesn't matter what color our skin is or what our political views are. If you have nothing nice to say about someone, then don't say anything at all. It's not worth making someone else miserable. Words really do hurt.
Remember that today will never come again.
You will never get a chance to take back the things that leave your mouth today. You have no idea what one kind word might mean someone. Telling someone you like their shirt might mean nothing to you, but that simple sentence might be the reason they will wake up the next morning. It takes one word to ruin someone, but it takes one word to help someone. Let your words heal, not be the sword that wounds.
When you walk out your door today, be a friend. Be kind and compassionate. Encourage the man sitting next to you on the train. Compliment the woman in line behind you at the grocery store. Love others as much as you love yourself. Love the world you are living in because it truly is and can be an amazing one. All it takes is one act of kindness at a time.
