Unless you have been living under a rock you know that there are things out there called subscription boxes, and you can literally get one for anything (just ask my cat and all the toys she never knew she'd never use). Arguably best of them are beauty boxes, and one of my faves is - drum roll please! IPSY! Unlike their counterpart Birchbox, who primarily focuses on skin/hair care, Ipsy is more makeup based. I recently broke up with Birchbox (miss you boo!) because I have too much shit already, but I kept Ipsy cuz I'll also never have enough.
So without much aplomb or a graceful transition, let's unpack this month's Ipsy!
Indi Beauty - Buttercream Antioxidant Lip Scrub
Personally, I think that like Wu-Tang, lip scrub, ain't nothing to fuck with. But now, as I sit here writing/reflecting, I'm beginning to rethink my stance. I have perpetually dry lips and when you apply this scrub it's sticky, thick and greasy. Which upon application feels grody. Practically, however, this seems like something that would work in my favor. My lips do feel exfoliated, softer and more luscious. Perhaps lip scrub is more like Wu-Tang, as in it's for the children. Aka the future. The future of my lips. Reaching too far with this one, perhaps? Oh well. This stuff is the jam.
Trestiqué - Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Florence Fig
I love lip crayons more than I love any other lip related product. They are so easy to use and this crayon is no exception. If you exfoliate with the product above and use this trick before you apply the crayon, you too can look like a foxy, matte lipped, a filler filled, offshoot of the Kardashian klan, if that's your thing. It happens to be my thing, but do you, boo thang!
The Balm - Hot Mama Shadow/Blush
I love the Balm. Their packages are super cute, 60's pinup kitch and their products are always pretty solid. Upon seeing this one, however, I was a little iffy ,until I realized that this was not a normal pink eyeshadow, but an eyeshadow/blush COMBINATION.
I love double trouble products because, in theory, you don't need to buy another product which makes you feel all thrifty and economical, but in reality, your twisted brain's logic tells you that because you saved on one product you can buy five more products in its place. Don't you love psychology? Hot Mama has a light shimmery hue that gives you a natural highlight on your cheekbones, so you don't need to get that highlighter you were planning on buying. Well, ok fine. Since you didn't get an extra eyeshadow you can put it in the cart.
Pure Brazilian - Miracle Leave In Conditioner w/ Keratin
Finally, a product that SCREAMS to me as I am the Queen of Damage and the Bearer of Frizz. Cracking open the container I get just the slightest hint of coconut, bringing me back to thoughts of beaches and piña coladas. Just a few spritzes (or many, because who has self-control anymore?) of this into your palms and run through damaged hair results in some seriously soft, straight locks. My hair looks calm and serene even though my brain is screaming give me more!
NYX - Vivid Brights - 10 Gunmetal (or gris acier if you are trés chic!)
YAAASSSSS! As much as I love subscription boxes, it really is just mostly more of the same kind of products over and over. Like I probably have ten black stick eyeliners that I never use because stick = ick). However, today is a different day and I scored a severely punk rock SILVER LIQUID EYELINER! This liquid liner is seriously easy to apply and has long lasting staying power. Plus you get the added bonus of looking like a sexy android.
Well, that's about it, except for the makeup bag. It's Halloween themed and cute-ish, but if you get a bag every month it's really just another bag. I literally have a bag of Ipsy bags. Bags of bags. Bags of bags of bags. Overall I would say that this month's haul has been pretty successful. You can pull off a full look with the products, which is pretty awesome if you're looking to shake up your look with little to no effort. Sharing this bag with y'all made me take a serious look at all of the products I got this month instead of just looking at them, 'eh-ing' and throwing them into a drawer with all of my other beauty supplies. I actually tried them all! Good on me. Good on you. Good on us! Let's get a drink and celebrate!
