Is The Unknown Really That Scary?

Every unknown situation that you endure is that much more growth than you knew existed within you. I know this to be true! Imagine that thing you have always wanted to do...what's stopping you?

I've realized it's mostly because we have this picture in our heads that we are constantly telling ourselves. In turn, we are constantly believing it. The one that tells you how your day is going to go, the one that tells you who to like, who likes you, how to dress, etc.

Stop asking yourself if it's OK to do something different, to like someone different or to wear something different! Just do it. You will literally be amazed at what you come to find. And if it's not that great, then you know. But at least you took a chance.

It's never easy configuring through the lines on this one, but I guarantee it's worth a try.

I realize that I'm 20 years old, have a whole life ahead of me and a whole life to enjoy simply being alive -- to enjoy finding things I do and don't like, finding things that enhance my soul or make it burn. Either way, it's another inside scoop in the book of my experiences on planet earth with the people that live here.

I like to think of it as really getting to know myself and my surroundings, then moving on to learn a whole lot more of the same thing. I think it's a beautiful cycle, and it's way better than mourning over what "could be." It's bringing life to life and enjoying the process.

So, is the unknown really that scary? It depends how fixated you are on the story in your head. I promise we all have one. We need it to function. It's a key in this lifetime! But it's tremendously important to step out of your story and realize that you are just a speck of dust on this entire earth among others with a lot of the same humanly desires, just like yours. Invite them on your journey.

It may sound belittling. But choose to use it for empowerment. It's like going to sleep and waking up in a whole new place, with a whole new identity and a whole different way of thinking. All it takes is letting yourself live outside the box.

So do the thing you want to do so badly. Buy that plane ticket, go to that concert, eat that large chocolate shake, move to that new state, go on that third date, fall in love with someone in a different location. Do it already! What are you scared of? You're scared it will fail miserably more than the small chance of it working out and making you incredibly happy.

We all know that happiness always ends, but so does pain. Technically, it's a 50/50 chance. Emotions come with the package of life. So ask yourself, which emotions would you want to feel more of while you're here? Happiness, right? So put yourself in the position in order to accept that emotion.

All I can think about is how every older relative always says they wish they did more while they were young. I know what they mean, I can feel it. And that scares the hell out of me.

It's easy to get stuck by mentally placing yourself in a metaphorical box. And, of course, when you're in that box, it's much harder to dig yourself out then it is to just sit there in pain. It's agonizing, heartbreaking and so not worth it. But sometimes it can be a good thing, it can give you clarity on what you want to change about yourself and your life.

Staying in one place is atrocious. So why wouldn't you want to venture through the unknown? Don't make any more excuses, put it off or settle. You don't want to find your 90-year-old self questioning why you didn't just take the plenty exhilarating chances that you were offered in your twenties.

Passion is in the risk. Do it already. The rest will follow.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
