Waist trainers are everywhere. As a woman, you can't scroll through any social media page of yours and not see another celebrity or even friend of yours hopping on the slim waist bandwagon.
Although, like many other products it's not a new concept. Women have been using this technique to achieve a defined waist since the early twentieth century, and the hourglass figure was brought back into the spotlight again in the glamorous 1920s. Recently, waist training has popped back up again and it is more popular than ever. Our Instagrams are filled with women sporting their trainers and thanking their shapers for their "results".Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, and Snooki have all been pictured in their trendy shapers and it seems as though they swear by them – considering the amount they post about the waist shapers. Snooki herself has claimed that she needed some extra help slimming down after giving birth and her waist trainer did the trick.
But do waist trainers actually work? Or are they simply just another trend that everyone wants to be apart of? When Caroline Apovian, M.D., professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine was asked about the effectiveness of waist trainers she stated that the technique is ideal for those who are only seeking temporary results. So, with that being said, waist trainers, shapers, corsets, or whatever you wish to call them are not the answer for your dream body. Don't let social media fool you, exercise and a healthy diet is still the way to go. But, waist trainers are a good idea if you're just trying to look good in that dress you just bought for tonight, just remember it won't keep your waist slim forever. It won't burn fat, and it can even make it harder to keep a firm core if worn for too long. At the end of the day, it's just a trend and won't provide lasting results.
Ultimately, the waist trainer is not the answer to your dream body goals, so I guess we'll have to find another way.
