As I'm sure you've all seen, there has been quite a few feuds over social media the past few days. First, Action Bronson received death threats over his war with Ghostface Killah, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj got into it over Nicki's song "Anaconda" not being nominated for Video Of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards, while Taylor's video for "Blank Space" was. Miguel came at Frank Ocean, claiming he wrote better music. (Keep dreaming, Miguel). But what seems to be taking the internet by storm is Meek Mill's accusations that Drake does not write his own lyrics.
On Kendrick Lamar’s “King Kunta,” the Compton MC unleashes a harsh verse against a big-name rapper who uses a ghostwriter. “I can dig rapping, but a rapper with a ghostwriter? / What the f*ck happened? / (Oh no) I swore I wouldn’t tell / But most of y’all sharing bars like you got the bottom bunk in a two-man cell,” says Kendrick.
Many thought Kendrick was throwing shade at Kanye West, who was accused of using ghostwriters back in 2007 by rapper Consequence following his departure from Kanye’s label G.O.O.D. But was Kendrick actually throwing shade at Drake?
Meek Mill, a 28-year-old rapper from Philly who’s probably only known publicly because he's dating Nicki Minaj, went on a Twitter rant on Tuesday night against Drake. Drake rapped a verse on Meek Mill’s recent single “R.I.C.O.” off of his album Dreams Worth More Than Money. Except now, Meek now claims Drake didn’t write his lyrics on that feature track, and that he’s just a fake who uses a ghost writer.
However, in the track "Ain't Me," Meek spits, "You ain't gotta like my sh*t, paid for the flow, I don't write my sh*t." Hm, can we say hypocrite? Even if the claims are true, you don't write your own raps either, Meek. Sounds like you trick your fans, too.
Artists such as Chris Brown and Rick Ross also weighed in on the Twitter beef. Chris Brown took to Instagram to post a meme a fan tweeted earlier in the night, and Rick Ross clearly sided with Drake on this one. (Ironically, Rick Ross is Meek Mill's boss. Shouldn't those greater-than signs be facing the other way? Rick's tweeted was quickly deleted).
Drake has yet to respond to Meek's claims, and we're all desperately waiting to see his reaction. Will he call him out publicly, or will he throw shade in a new song? Fans took to Twitter and made jokes about what Drake would say back to Meek, and said things such as, "I heard you tweeting on me. I guess you had the time. You just mad that I hopped up on your album and almost made it mine."
So, I'll leave this up to you. Do you think Drake uses a ghostwriter? Who actually hooked up with Courtney from Hooters on Peachtree? I guess we'll never know.
