After the Super Bowl halftime show this year, I’m sure a few of us were more than drunk in love with Beyoncé’s performance. Her hair. The backup dancers. The dancing. The announcement of her Formation tour. It was all so fierce, Sasha Fierce some may say. But the question remains unanswered by many: Is Beyoncé really the queen?
Starting as one-third of Destiny’s Child to a successful businesswoman, Beyoncé has clearly made a name for herself. Her debut with Destiny’s Child in 1997 skyrocketed her career as a singer with their classic song “Say My Name” at the peak of the band’s popularity. She eventually went solo in a track by Jay-Z called “Bonnie and Clyde.” Not only did she gain a name for herself from this track, but eventually a husband. Her career only continues to grow as she recently developed an athletic clothing line rivaling the infamous Lululemon.
Along with a blossoming career, Beyoncé is an activist for women’s rights. She said it best herself who run the world? Girls! Not only does Bey sing for empowerment, but for self-love as well. With her debut of #flawless, she reached millions of women who feel inferior in their looks. Her words, “I woke up like this” are branded across t-shirts and tagged in Instagram captions basically starting a movement praising women for their inner and outer beauty.
Her activism doesn’t end with self-love, but extends to the cause she began called #BeyGood. With assistance from the Bey Hive (Beyoncé’s fan club) she continues to make a difference by promoting charity and providing opportunities for youth ambassadors for the #BeyGood cause. She uses her role as a well-known public figure to raise awareness and organize funds to contribute to different foundations that aid people in need.
And who could forget when she announced her pregnancy during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Quite possibly the most baller ending to a performance. She truly exudes class and is a wonderful mother and role model to Blue.
Jay Z and Beyoncé equals goals. They’ve been together for eight years and continue to show each other love in the sweetest ways. Through music and date nights, they keep the romance alive and raise their beautiful daughter together. They also are personally invited to President Obama’s events, which is a very prestigious honor. Their A-class status makes them prominent figures in not only the music industry but the politics as well.
So, is Beyoncé really queen? Judging from her successful career, marriage, business ventures, and music I would say yes. Her lyrics continue to inspire women to be confident and successful. She promotes all relationships from shouting out to “all the single ladies” to being “drunk in love.” She is fierce, poised, classy, and simply Queen Bey.
