Evan Walsh and John That are two individuals who seem to share one idea: to make rad music to move the masses. Residing in Los Angeles, California, the music that Walsh and That create blends hip-hop, reggae, rock, and pop flawlessly.
Although releasing only two EPs, "Moving Methods" in 2014 and "The Beat Generation" in 2015, the music that ACADEMY creates has been met with acceptance and love from fans around the country. One of their songs, titled "The Buyer," holds a vibe most similar to classic hip-hop, with smooth riffs as a backing track to simple boom bap drum loops. On the other spectrum, "Catch My Vibe" has a much more rock driven sound, which is reminiscent of Californian beach and surf culture. Nonetheless, the duo creates music that has gathered more than a staggering five million plays.
ACADEMY has been seen with artists such as Vic Mensa, Misterwives, Smallpools, and Radical Something. They are currently on a national tour with Jackson Breit and William Bolton, coming to the east coast soon. There will be an interview with Walsh and That coming soon. Here are some tracks to get you acclimated to their sound.
