Internet Friends Are Real Friends: A Letter To Mine

Some people may say friends you meet on the Internet aren’t real friends. I say they're wrong.

Internet Friends Are Real Friends: A Letter To Mine

To my Internet friend,

I admire you.

When I was younger, my parents would warn against the “dangers of the Internet.” While that is true in some cases, I am glad it wasn’t the case with you. We first met on Twitter about four years ago because of our mutual love for Lady Gaga. Even though we don’t talk as often as we used to, we are still friends, and my heart is happy every time I see your name pop up on my phone.

Some people may say friends you meet on the Internet aren’t real friends.

I would beg to differ. You know that I will be there for you as much as I possibly can while living in a different state. I know you would do anything for me as well. You encourage me by telling me you’re proud of me. I want you to know I am so endlessly proud of you as well. I love hearing about your successes and watching you put out new music. Your excitement makes me excited for you! You truly love singing and it helps me with my passion for music as well.

Your persistence and passion are inspiring.

I have watched you go through struggles and come out on top. This is mostly to do with your music. Although I have seen some of your heartbreaks with your friends and even family. Your style has developed as well. Thanks for that glow up for both of us! I’ve never seen anyone who dyes their hair more than you! You recently traveled to New York to film a music video which is such a huge and amazing opportunity for you and I love that you took advantage of it. I can’t wait to see your video when it comes out!

You have never been anything but kind to me, which is more than I can ever ask for.

When I was having boy problems in 2012, you told me: “If he didn’t realize how amazing you are already then he didn’t deserve you…because I know how amazing you are and it’s pretty impossible to leave someone like you.” I don’t know what I did to deserve all of the kindness from you, but I am glad you always have some positivity to bring into my life. Last year, you sent me the sweetest birthday message, telling everyone I had been one of your closest fans for years. Thank you so much for that, it really made my day so much more special.

You know I have to put my favorite song of yours in here, too. It has gotten me through a lot and gives me all kinds of feels every time I listen to it. It also reminds me that even though we are waiting to meet each other, we will eventually, and it’s going to be great.

“I know she’s out there somewhere and she’s waiting, she’s waiting for me, I’m the man of her dreams. And I’m gonna find her, my baby, I can’t keep her waiting, waiting for me. She’s waiting for me to be reality. Out there, I know you’re out there. I’m coming. I’m coming, coming, coming for you. I won’t leave you out there, I’m on my way. I’ll rescue you from all of your pain. Love, show me the way.”

I will always love you, Michael.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
