Before you click out of this article, let’s get something straight. This is not a political piece. This is a piece about the lurking evil that is the medical industry.
In this article, I am not going to attack one side or the other, but instead, address the real issue and that is that medical providers are robbing us blind and we have no power to stop them.
We all remember back in 2015 when a pill to help treat aids had a price increase of 5,000 percent overnight. A single pill went from being $13.50 a piece to $750 all due to the selfishness of one man: Martin Shkreli. While the public was outraged, there was no legal action taken against him for this injustice.
This same thing is happening day after day with everyday procedures and test. Even with insurance, medical care is still very expensive.
Recently, I had a CT scan and my insurance company only covered $3,800, so I have to pay the remaining $1,300 -- despite being a college student with loans! A test that I physically needed is hindering my ability to pay for my education.
Instead of worrying about my homework, I have a weight on my shoulders in the form of a medical bill. The administrator didn’t even flinch handing an eighteen-year-old a debt like that.
The health care system has grown so powerful because we require it. CEOs and corporate heads have learned how to manipulate the system and use it to their advantage. Starving mothers avoid health care because they need to feed their children.
Growing up, I watched my mother suffer from illness because we couldn’t afford to go to the doctors. As a child, I thought that meant I couldn’t go to the doctors either. Things like that scar people and it is the fault of healthcare companies. So with all the respect I have for the corporations of medical care, which is none, I say screw you.
