I read a quote somewhere that stated, "the cause of most peoples unhappiness is sacrificing what they want most for what they want now".

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Some may want a healthy fit body, but give in repeatedly to eating junk food at the present time.

Some may desire a faith that sets their soul on fire for love of God, yet stop the pursuit because their "faith and feelings" are taking too long to form.

Others may want a stable future with plenty of money saved away, yet they spend it recklessly on things they want now.

Still others want a future picture perfect husband or wife, but they give into worldly pleasures now instead of waiting for "the one".

Instant gratification. That's what it all boils down to.

This desire to be instantly gratified stems from the need to experience pleasure or fulfillment without delay or deferment.

I firmly believe that the ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term, in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term, is the indispensable prerequisite for success in all aspects of life.

We as people envision ourselves losing weight, creating a better faith life, building a stable future by saving money, or holding out for that one special person, but very few of us want to put in the work necessary to get there.

Doing so would mean either not being able to eat what I want when I want, or setting aside time every day to pray when I could be sleeping or watching TV, or not spending money on fun things in the present, or lastly, abstaining from things that would hurt my future spouse.

Whatever our motive is, our end goal, we need to be apart of the process and not just expect to get the product right away.

You cant plant seeds and expect to get an entire field of produce in the same season. BUT if you stick to it, you'll be around to reap the benefits.

What comes easy wont last, what last's won't come easy. Simple as that.

The reason people give up so easily is because they look at how far they still have to go instead of focusing on how far they have already gotten.

Anything worth achieving will take time, and like it always does, time will pass, you just have to start.

So stop ignoring truths for temporary happiness and realize the more work you put into your goal, the more you appreciate it when you achieve it.

Don't compare yourself to others and how fast they are achieving their goals. Besides, the construction of a palace takes more time than the construction of an ordinary building. Trust in the wait. Believe in your end goal.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
