Let's talk about fame, shall we? It's something only a select few get to experience their whole lives. I was talking to a group of friends a couple of days ago about individuals who became famous on Instagram and how they are now considered famous by just posting pictures.
I love Instagram. It's great to see what your friends are up to and how other individuals are doing in their lives, but it is hard to see someone being called famous because of the things they post on Instagram.
The one individual my friend and I were talking about is Kylie Jenner. Even though she grew up watching her older sisters bask in the spotlight of fame, it’s hard to see her in the same light now. One of my friends said, “She really does nothing but post pictures.” That's the truth, but that is our society. We think of fame as a pretty face and something people want to aspire to.
My friends also talked about Blake Lively and how she was a person people should look up to. Yes, she is drop dead gorgeous, but she does so much for others, too. I would consider her someone who is “famous.” She helps with organizations that benefit underprivileged families, and her clothing line, Preserve Us, is handmade in the U.S. Her husband, Ryan Reynolds, is also an advocate for helping organizations such as the Michael J. Fox Foundation and Hope North. It’s what people do that makes them a true example of fame.
So, back to Kylie Jenner. She started her fame with Instagram and became a sensation with her pictures. It grew to a contract with Pacsun, and now she is on covers of magazines and wearing the top designers. Honestly, I love following her and seeing the life she lives, but after talking to my friends, I understand that I am like every other girl that follows her. I want to see what she wears, who she follows, what her sisters do. Thank you to my friends who opened my eyes to the society I live in now. Not that I am disrespecting it. I just have realized that I am the same as everyone else, and I accept that now! So, who will become the new Insta-fame?
