Reflection: (n.) Serious thought or consideration.

One way to build a sense of yourself is by reflecting on how others perceive us. This concept is called “the looking-glass self”. Another way to define yourself is by defining traits you have. Both ideas of finding yourself are great, but it doesn’t actually matter how others perceive us or knowing your traits, if you don’t analyze why.

I was running late for class, so I jumped out of bed and began my morning routine: eat breakfast, brush my teeth, shower, moisturize, hair, and finally my makeup. As I reached my last step to getting ready for class, I opened my closet and saw nothing inside. My closet was completely empty, surrounded by mirrored doors as walls. I walked inside of my closet in search of all my belongings and nothing was there. I opened up one mirrored door and saw another mirrored door inside of it. I went to the second mirrored door and another mirrored door appeared. I opened the third mirrored door and, of course, the same thing happened. As confusion took over my mind and my legs started feeling weak and my breakfast was about to be on the inside of my closet floor, I took a moment to analyze what was actually happening.

One would say that I was in my precociousness level of the mind, meaning that I was having a memory, or facing my fears and I would agree with them. I sat down, closed my eyes hoping all of my things would return and opened my eyes again.

All I saw was the mirrored doors and yet no reflection of myself in them. I started to think about why I couldn't see myself. Was this a fear of mine to see what I didn’t want to? My second thought was, "maybe I'm dead and I'm not supposed to be able to see myself." Then I woke up.

The real reason why I couldn’t see myself is because in dreams your subconscious doesn’t want you to recognize yourself. At this moment, I took the time to think about the things that I wouldn’t want to see, and what unpleasant things people might think about me. I am now on a path to self-realization. And I just wanted you to know, despite what people might see in you, and the things you try to hide from others, it all will be shown in your reflection.

Work on yourself, never give up or give in to anything or anyone that doesn’t add value in your life. Get rid of all negative energy, speak to loved ones often, and start to actually love yourself. Do not become arrogant, but love yourself so much that when you look in the mirror, you don’t shy away. Love yourself so much, that when you look in the mirror, you start to smile unexpectedly. Love yourself so much, that when you look to see your reflection, you actually like what you see.

Self-Realization: (n.) Fulfillment of one’s own potential.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
