Innings Festival is a celebration for baseball fans and music lovers combined. Two things Arizonans pride themselves off: hosting Spring Training and having some of the best music venues.
The festival takes place at Tempe Beach Park & Arts Park from Feb. 29 to March 1. Previous years have hosted headliners like Incubus and Queens of the Stone Age.
Innings Festival
This year the festival has the honor of hosting acts like Weezer, The Struts, and more on stages named Home Plate, Right Field and Left Field. Be prepared for appearances by MLB Legends such as Jake Peavy and Ryan Dempster.
There will be many things to do besides listening to music such as baseball activities, food from local vendors and liquor lounge areas. Get familiar with some of the bands in the listicle below:
The Struts
The Struts are the perfect festival band as they have a charismatic singer and top-notch band. With two albums under their belt and an unforgettable stage presence, The Struts will have you reminiscing about older bands like Queen and Aerosmith: Two huge influences of theirs.
Currently on their tour presented by Harley-Davidson, The Struts decided to make a pitstop in Tempe, Arizona, to play Innings Festival in the middle of their Tour de California.
The British glam rockers have had openers like Greta Van Fleet, Kelsy Karter, and The Glorious Sons. You'll definitely want to hear these acts along with the band's cover of David Bowie and Mick Jagger's "Dancing in the Street."
The Struts will be performing Sunday at 5:10 p.m. at Home Plate. The band will also be at the Zia Records pop-up shop at 3:30 p.m.
Weezer
What isn't there to say about Weezer?
The rock icons are notable for crossing multiple genres and most famously known for naming albums "Red Album," "Blue Album," and even "Teal Album."
Weezer, along with singer Rivers Cuomo, is praised in the music business for its influence on 2000s music. The "Blue Album" was released in 1994 and has a couple of their most known hits on it such as "Say it Ain't So,"Â "Buddy Holly," and "Undone - The Sweater Song."
Get prepared to see Sunday's headliners by listening to as many of their albums as you can!
Weezer will be performing Sunday at Home Plate at 9:30 p.m.
Portugal. The Man
With 8 full-length albums to their name, Portugal. The Man is ready to entertain a large Saturday crowd toward the end of the night. The Alaska formed band, most famously known for their song "Feel It Still," is no stranger to success.
If the name isn't ringing a bell yet, you'll remember the band's hit song "Feel It Still" from commercials to winning a Grammy Award. The song won "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Portugal. The Man will be performing on Saturday at 6:20 p.m. at Home Plate.
Death Cab for Cutie
Death Cab for Cutie, a household name, has been around since the late '90s. The group has continued to put music out with their latest EP, "The Blue EP," released on Sept. 6, 2019.
The band can be categorized as alternative rock, indie rock or pop. Death Cab for Cutie is often recognized for the singer Ben Gibbard's distinct voice. The Washington natives have released nine studio albums and will have a crowd singing in moments as their work has been on radios, TV shows and more since the late '90s.
If you haven't heard of the band, here are some classics to get you started: "Soul Meets Body,"Â "You Are A Tourist," and "Cath..."
Death Cab for Cutie will be at Right Field at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday.
Dr. Dog
Dr. Dog, a Pennsylvania based band, will be making their way to Tempe, Arizona, Saturday. The indie-rock group is said to have a strong '60s influence citing bands like The Beatles and The Beach Boys as strong influences.
The band has 10 studio albums under their name, with the latest released on April 27, 2018: "Critical Equation." Check out the live performance of "Nellie" above to get more of a feel for the band's sound.
Dr. Dog will be performing at Right Field on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
O.A.R.
O.A.R. is a rock band from Rockville, Maryland that was founded in 1996. The rockers from Rockville, also known as Of A Revolution, are most notably remembered by their hit song "Shattered (Turn the Car Around)."
