The sad truth is not many people care to know how we are harmfully impacting the world. This empire of greed that we've created has led us to overlook our part in the world's destruction.
We forget that we are not that different from the Earth we live in. It is so innocent, still learning and adapting to whatever situation it's in. I watch day in and day out as plants grow after winter's frost, rejuvenating itself when its greens turn into purple bruised tendrils. The Earth wants to live just as badly as we want to, so it fights back with terrible disasters that wash away people's homes.
Unfortunately, we've given it one filled with war and judgement. Yet it's written in our existence to grow. We pray, we plead for forgiveness, yearning for a fresh start. Our vision is so clouded by the thoughts of tomorrow, we cannot see the road to longevity is already paved for us.
We are destroying vital food nutrients with harmful pesticides and genetically modified foods. GMO crops are responsible for the emergence of “super weeds” and “super bugs:’ which can only be killed with even more toxic poisons.
These toxins strip quality air that our lungs need for proper function. The World Health Organization estimates that 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution.
Land has given us a roof over our heads, food to grow, and travels for our wander-filled eyes. Yet we are extracting our resources to supply a demand that is too heady for this planet, making it a barren desert. In our efforts to string a long mortality, we take without any want to give back.
40 percent of food in the United States alone goes uneaten, yet hunger remains an everyday challenge for almost 795 million people worldwide, including 780 million in developing regions.
The world holds all the important people we love. Losing someone dear to your heart leads to one of the most excruciating pain you can feel. The same way that you appreciate your mother is the same way a child in Afghanistan looks at his. We, as a whole, are allowing the death of our fellow humans.
We are so gifted with these crazy complex brains that have invented some of the most beautiful creations. Something as astounding as the replication of sun light has tremendously affected our lives. Our intellect has been our savior and downfall.
We have a beautiful placed filled with the greatest artists, philosophers, musicians, and inventors. Please, treat it with the kindness we expect and deserve for ourselves.
