The long awaited sequel to the popular fighting video game, "Injustice: Gods Among Us," is being developed by NetherRealm studios for a 2017 release date. This brings much anticipated excitement from the fighting game community and DC comic community as "Injustice 2" will bring a never before seen side of both universes.
NetherRealm studios is most known for their work on the one fighting game that defined the fighting video game genre and actually pushed for the creation of the video game rating system. This game would be "Mortal Kombat" so it is safe to say that the creation of "Injustice 2" is in expert hands.
The Injustice Story
"Injustice 2" will pick up right where "Injustice: Gods Among Us" left off. Superman is in a prison on Mars and Batman is leading the resistance to stop those who would like to see Superman back in power. Now if you do not know the "Injustice" storyline of the DC Universe, then you are probably very confused with the previous sentence and the above trailer of some of the greatest DC heroes fighting each other. The first "Injustice" game brings to life the "Injustice" story arc from the DC comic books. The "Injustice" story line is a very dark one and sees the fall from grace of one of the most beloved superheroes of all time, Superman.
The first game tells the story of a universe in which the Joker sets off a nuclear blast in Metropolis before the Justice League can stop him. This results in millions of people dying and then to top it all off, the Joker tricks Superman into killing the love of his life , Lois Lane, who is also pregnant with Superman's child. Overcome with rage and grief, Superman kills the Joker. I mean, you can't really blame him. Then he decides that the only way for there to be absolute peace on Earth is for him to rule it with a iron fist. This begins Superman's tyrannical rule of the Earth, where if you don't like how Superman is running the place, you get blasted by heat vision.
This is where Batman creates a resistance with the other members of the Justice League to free the Earth from Superman's control. The very interesting thing is that in this universe, our heroes get help from some good versions of villains that are usually evil, such as Lex Luthor, to help take Superman down.
It is expected that "Injustice 2" will deliver a very powerful and satisfying conclusion to the "Injustice" storyline or it could be possible that this is just the next game in a larger series. There are many questions that need answers!
Gameplay Mechanics
"Injustice 2" will bring very interesting elements into a fighting game. The main focus of "Injustice 2" will be that each battle changes you. This will be reflected in game by the ability for you to obtain loot after each one of your battles. This gear can be seen in the above trailer where our heroes are seen equipping powerful suits of armor to make them stronger. This will allow you to customize your fighter exactly how you want—for example, you may go for armor that gives you a very strong defense or armor that gives your character the ability to deliver one hell of a upppercut.
With the introduction of the gear system for "Injustice 2," no two people will have the same kind of character to fight with. You could be playing a online match in which both of you are using The Flash but since you both have different kinds of gear equipped on him your play styles could differ majorly. The possibilities are endless!
"Injustice 2" seems to be the perfect game to satisfy fans' thirst for a fighting game that incorporates our favorite DC comic characters with innovative features for a traditional fighting video game. We will have to wait until 2017 to see the full product, but the wait will definitely be worth it!
