Naturalistas, on the kinky and at times confusing natural hair journey, learn quickly that the more moisturized your hair is, the more it looks and feels healthy. It's important to keep your hair moisturized in order to promote hair growth. Properly moisturized hair will experience: less breakage, flexibility, bounce, shine and softness. Natural hair products can range anywhere from $4.00 to $80.00. For natural, curly-haired women who haven't grasped the concept "a little goes a long way," they have probably overspent on hair products. There are many natural moisturizers that you can find in your kitchen cupboards. Any woman or man experiencing heat damage, low porosity, and severely dry hair can use any of these household items to solve their issue.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar:
This product isn't used only for cleansing meat. Apple cider vinegar can replace shampoo. It is a cleanser that can rid your scalp and hair strands of dirt or product build up. Once you rinse off the vinegar, your hair doesn't feel brittle and it also has a new shine to it.
2. Egg:
Egg is a protein, and your hair thrives off of protein. The yolk can be massaged into your scalp, all the way down to the tips of your hair. Leaving the egg in your hair for anywhere between 2-5 minutes will result in softer hair.
3. Avocado:
Avocado has monounsaturated fat and is high in vitamin B-6. Vitamin B has been proven to help with hair growth, strength, and porosity. Blending an avocado and smearing the paste into your hair helps to conceal the water within the hair already.
4. Whole Milk:
The nutrients inside of whole milk can improve hair porosity. Whole milk and coconut milk can be used as a hair rinse. Leaving your hair with a bounce that can be truly admired.
5. Olive Oil:
Olive oil specifically helps with severely dry hair. After rinsing or washing your hair, apply small amounts of oil to your scalp and then to the tips of your hair. Excess oil can be massaged through the rest of your hair.
6. Banana:
Bananas are a great deep conditioner. Bananas are a fruit filled with multi-vitamins and nutrients. The longer it is set on your hair the more moisture your hair can retain.
7. Plain Greek Yogurt:
Greek yogurt is filled with protein. The consistency of the yogurt makes for a great replacement for any expensive deep conditioner. Greek yogurt should only be placed onto the hair from the tips to the middle. Applying Greek yogurt directly to your scalp can make for a smelly hair day.
8. Honey:
Melted honey is the perfect hair mask to retain moisture. Honey should be applied to wet or damp oiled hair. When rinsing honey, make sure to use oil to help with tough build-up and residue honey potentially leaves.
9. Mayo:
Mayo provides sufficient amount of fats that can be used as a deep conditioner. Creating flexible strands and revitalizing your hair.
10. Water:
Water is the easiest obtained product on the list thus far. Although sometimes the PH balance of the water might be off, you can mix any of these products with water to help. Spritzing water on your hair throughout the day or when it feels dry can help with maintaining moisture.
