Why You Need To Date A Girl From Indiana

Tom Petty wouldn't mention us by name in a song if we weren’t so great.

Why You Need To Date A Girl From Indiana
Im Priscilla

I have a friend who once told me, “grandma would love me, but I could outdrink the groomsmen.”

She was talking about being the +1 at a wedding with a guy she was trying to win over. We were joking about the things she would say back to the guy who was looking for a date to the wedding and this was one of the top choices. She ended up deciding on something else, but she’s always been the perfect plus one. She’s funny, smart, beautiful, witty and she can hold a conversation with just about anybody. Lucky for men and women all around the world, that is what they can expect with a girl from Indiana.

I don’t mean to sound biased, but even though all Indiana girls are top of the crop, the girls from Indiana who attended Indiana University are the ones who will be the best life partners. We can be everything your mother wanted, the girl who can talk sports with your dad, the girl who can feel wanderlust with your little sister and the one who can crack open a beer with the boys. We know our “pleases” and “thank yous” being raised close to the south but we all have a friend from the big city who totally taught us how to talk back to somebody we didn’t like. We have moms who gave us a green thumb and dads who threw a football around with us. We are educated, understanding and beautiful – a whole lot of tomboy covered up by a delicate day dress and we aren’t scared to get a little dirty.

The hospitality known from people in the Midwest is almost unmatchable. We’ll take you in, we’ll cook and clean. We will treat you like a member of our family. Like I said before, grandma will love your Indiana girl because she’ll listen to the stories she has told you for the past 10 years and she’ll do it with a smile on her face. But when grandma finishes her story, you best believe that we know who intercepted the ball during the big game to cause that Colts win and we’ll cheers to that. You know you’ll never miss out on the real thing because you can see the passion in our love for the sports teams alone. Don’t believe me? Visit Bloomington on any given basketball game day or check out the seats at a Pacers game in the winter and be amazed at the people who fill the stands. You’ll know if your Indiana girl loves you because she’ll scream it from the nosebleeds.

So if you’re looking for a plus one to your wedding in June or if you’re looking for something a little more long-term, you can’t go wrong with an Indiana girl. We are a little bit of everything and the dream girl you never knew you were missing. Don’t fret if you’re out of town because you’ll probably cross paths with one of us and you’ll know immediately. Even though most of us aspire to get out of Indiana, we’ll always keep a little bit of home with us. After all, Tom Petty wouldn't mention us by name in a song if we weren’t so great, would he?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
