The College to Summer Transition

Let me tell you what I have been telling everyone since I've been back home; college was great. I loved college where I made great friends and great memories. I had a blast like playing bingo or going to other events with my friends. I had significant highlights like going to see Phantom of the Opera and going to Sky Zone for the first time. We laughed, we cried, we bickered, but we overall had a lot of fun times. For instance, we had dinners that could stretch into hours and just chilling out on the weekends.

I kind of had gotten into a routine in college because dinner and lunch times would always be the same set schedule. Now that I am home, I kind of eat whenever I feel hungry or however long it takes to make dinner. Especially my sleep schedule is significantly different from my college sleep schedule because either I had to get up early whether for crew practice in the morning or for 8 a.m. classes. Now I stay up way later than normal like 12 or 1 a.m. opposed to 11 at night. On the positive aspect, I do get to sleep in later like 9 or 10 a.m. opposed to 7 or 5 a.m. You know it all depended on the day in college with how my schedule worked out with but now there is a more loose schedule.

The transition between coming back from college for the first time is pretty weird. It has only been two weeks since I finished my first year at college but the change is evident. I still have friends in high school who I would like to hang out with but they are still in school for another month. While on the other hand, some of my friends who I graduated from high school with have gotten out of college at different times. We all have different schedules because we are all now working.

If you didn't know, my plans this summer are pretty exciting. Because I am a college student, I now get to work at my local farm's greenhouse. This is a big deal because only college students are allowed to do greenhouse work. I get to expand my knowledge about plants, flowers, and vegetation. Before you know it, the summer will come by and farming season will begin. This will be my fourth year working at the farm and I already know what is in store. Corn, Corn, and more CORN! Along with other various farm crops like lettuce, kale, tomatoes, and peaches. I can't wait till my family vacation! I also can't wait for my first red sox game ever! Although I am just now beginning the transition from college life into summer life; I have a lot to look forward to. I hope everyone's summer is just as exciting!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
