In The Season of Thanks

It's Thanksgiving, so what are you thankful for?

With the season of Thanksgiving upon us, it is only fitting to write about thanks and what we are grateful for this time of year. Some things are universal, for we can all find ways to be thankful for them, where others seem to get more personal and in depth to who we are as individual human beings.

For starters, I'm thankful for the people in my life. For my family, for being my home base and the center of where my world turns round. For my parents, for always pushing me to be the best I can be and to never stop working hard. For my siblings, for constantly giving me something to laugh about and sharing in my weirdness. For my girlfriends, for being there night and day for me, sharing laughs and tears, going on adventures with me, and just being my people. For my sisters in Tri Delta, for already helping me and showing me the incredible woman I'm destined to be, and for creating a home away from home for me and welcoming me with open arms.

I'm thankful for college and the struggle it has been this past semester. I'm thankful for the struggle and stress because it has only pushed me to work ten times harder than I thought I was capable of, and it allowed me to see just how much I actually can handle. More importantly, that I am a lot smarter than I thought. And even though my life has been nothing but a constant cycle of stress because of school this past semester, I am thankful to even have the opportunity to go to college and get a higher degree of education to be able to pursue my dreams.

I'm thankful for the heartbreak and hardships that I have endured these past few months, for without them, I wouldn't have realized my strength. I also learned through this that time is irreplaceable, and so are people; to enjoy and truly cherish the time that you have with the people you love while you have it. And regardless of how any situation ends, never hesitate to tell someone how you feel, for you can never overuse the phrase "I love you".

I'm thankful for the job I have, and to be able to work and go to school all at the same time. I'm thankful to be able to have some sort of income, so that I can learn on my own how to manage money all while having the freedom of having my own money. I'm also thankful to be in a work environment that helps me to grow as a person everyday, and is always teaching me something new.

I'm thankful for the things that are overlooked everyday, like the way that the sun rises and sets, the stars that always shine every single night, the roar and depth of the ocean, and the beauty of nature in general. I'm thankful to have these calming, consistent sights everyday, to bring us back to ground level and remind us how small we are.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
