Spoiler Alerts: Do not read if you have not made it to the third week of Jojo's season of "The Bachelorette!"
"The Bachelorette:" A show filled with handsome men vying for the attention and love of a pretty woman. All of the contestants are aged between 25-35, they go one dates, try new maneuvers to impress the woman, and ultimately, most of the time, end up not married to the person they came on the show for. Sounds simple enough right? Well, simple doesn't make good enough television.
Every season, the men selected to compete on the show come from different backgrounds and inevitably have different personalities. The producers cast a variety of men on purpose; to give Jojo, or whomever the Bachelorette is that season, a multitude of options, but also to create drama among the men in the house to produce an entertaining show. This season was no different, except this time, Chad, the man produced to be the jerk meat-head type, went a little crazier, and has been getting more scrutiny from the public than men in past seasons typically have.
To me, Chad seems like a man who has several layers and was edited and produced very well to paint him as a steroid using, violent, crazy guy. Who the real Chad is, no one will ever know, as what we see on TV is meticulously manipulated to create a controversial character. There are a few things we do know about Chad, however. We know Chad likes to work out. We know Chad likes to eat meat. We also know Chad has been thrown into a situation that he has never been in before, and yes so has every other contestant, but it is a little different for Chad. We know Chad's mom passed away just six months before the show took place. And, we know Chad doesn't care about becoming friends with any of the guys there and is not going to pretend he is automatically in love with Jojo like some of the other guys there, which for whatever reason makes people angry. But at least he is real and honest. Does Chad probably have a bit of anger management problem? Sure, but does he get provoked repeatedly after he asks everyone to stop? Most definitely, and this is what scrutinizers of Chad seem to forget.
I am not saying resorting to violence is the answer in this scenario, or any. I don't think Chad has any right to threaten someone physically, but it is only natural that he becomes agitated when the other men constantly question him. Imagine you had a bruise on your arm that someone kept poking over and over again, even when you asked them to stop. The poking would not only annoy you, it would also cause you pain. Whatever is going on in Chad's life and in his brain is clearly annoyed by people questioning him and nagging on him for not saying he loves Jojo immediately. He is mentally being put into pain, and no one seems to understand that.
Also, a quick note about the other men--Evan, you need to chill. Do you really need to tattle to Chris Harrison? Do you really need to refer to yourself in the 3rd person after sharing a peck with Jojo? And Alex, I totally understand where you're coming from but a) literally stop saying dude and b) what does it say about your relationship with Jojo that you spend pretty much all of your alone time with Jojo talking about another man? Seriously why are you so infatuated with Chad?
Clearly what has happened with Chad on this season is a combination of Chad's own personal issues, clever editing, and a poor reflection on the men in the house, and America, for thinking Chad is this evil crazy man, when in reality Chad was just pushed and pushed and pushed and genuinely could not take it anymore.
