In Case You Haven't Heard, Enya

One thing I have to keep reminding myself is that my experiences are not universal. There are many things that I have become accustomed to or have experience in that others do not. Throughout my life I have come across certain pieces of information that I previously believed to be universal knowledge but actually were not. For example, last year I learned that not everyone is aware of that the capybara exists, so I wrote an article about it.

Today I learned that not everyone knows about Enya.

A brief bio, Eithne Pádraigín Ní Bhraonáin known mononymously as Enya is an Irish singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Wikipedia cites her birthday as the 17th of May, 1961, but as she is actually a god, she transcends time and has no true established date of birth.

Even if you aren't learnèd in the ways of Enya, you may have heard her music.

Enya's single "May It Be" was written for Peter Jackson's 2001 film adaptation "The Lord of The Rings: Fellowship of the Ring."

Enya won a Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Song with "May It Be." This song was also nominated for both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2002.

Her music is typically categorized as "New Age" in genre, and she currently holds the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album from 1993, 1997 and 2007.

Anyway, I've probably bored you enough already. Here's a list of some of her most kickin' tunes.

1. "Orinoco Flow."

I would argue that this is one of Enya's most famous songs. If not, it should be.

2. "Only Time."

This is another very popular Enya number. As well as being popular in context of the artist, within the last year or two it became part of an internet meme that goes by multiple names.

Yet another example of Enya transcending time and generations.

3. "Anywhere Is."

This one is so bouncy and upbeat. Add it to your next study playlist.

4-21. Literally any song on Enya's Best of Album.

I could make a fifty item listicle filled with great Enya songs, but luckily some of the work has been done for me already. Just listen to this album.

Hell, any Enya song is worth listening to. Just download her full discography (legally. She deserves every penny).

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
