The Most Important Things Aren't Things

"But the most beautiful things in life are not things. They're people, places, memories, and pictures. They're feelings and moments, and smiles and laughter."

The Most Important Things Aren't Things
Jessica Gardella

The most important things in life aren't things. It's the people, the memories, and the time spent with the ones you love the most that means the most. It's those moments that often times get taken for granted. Never take those moments for granted because one day you'll look back and realize just how important the time spent with those people was.

Time is a valuable matter and it doesn't slow down for anyone. We never know how much of it we have left until it's gone, so take each moment and cherish it.

Cherish the people, the experiences, the lessons, the heart breaks, and the laughs.

Cherish the nights you spent out with your friends, the midnight conversations, the inside jokes, the crazy adventures, the sleepovers, but also take time to cherish the beautiful moments life presents you with such as the breathtaking sunsets or cloudless starry nights. There's so much to appreciate. We never realize just how much time and the little things make us into who we are. We tend to look at challenges as if they are a bad thing, but in the end, they help shape us into who we are meant to be. We are who we are because of the challenges. We are who we are because of adversity. We are who we are because of the choices we make. We become the truest forms of ourselves when we bounce back from what seems to be the lowest of the low.

Every single one of us has experienced some sort of struggle throughout our lives, even the most "perfect" people have faced something that took a toll on them deep down inside. We've all either heard or have asked the question: "why do bad things happen to good people?" There truly is no right answer to why it happens the way it does, but if you make the decision to only seek for the good in the bad- you will find more peace and serenity. You have the power to turn bad things into good learning experiences for yourself. Bad things happen to everyone and they seem to always manage to take bits and pieces of the people affected by them, but they cannot overtake you. You are stronger than the bad. You can bounce back from anything and that shows character.

So, take a deep breath — and think about how you want to be portrayed: as the one who let the bad ruin them or the one who overcame the bad and turned it into good? Your strength becomes admirable for everyone around you and you can start to change others perspectives as well. One positive thing you do for someone can make the biggest change. It has the potential to be a different maker in that persons life as well as many others. We were all put on this earth for a reason and we might not know exactly who we are meant to be right now, but that's just part of the journey. Find joy in the journey and always remember that the most important things in life aren't things.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
