As another beautiful Fourth of July weekend passes by, it has become clear that I need to acknowledge someone who I see as a true American hero. Known for his love of meat, whiskey, breakfast foods, hunting and the good ol' US of A, Ron Swanson of NBC's "Parks and Recreation" has proven his worth as a modern-day hero.
Despite his portrayal as a staunch and deadpan person with killer mustache game, Ron's character is somehow highly relatable—which is why I've selected seven subjects in which Ron's feelings and opinions were undeniably the same as all of ours.
1. Dieting And Nutritional Foods
In a perfect world, we'd all eat healthy foods and completely enjoy doing so. In Ron Swanson's world, there's no need for that garbage—and you know you agree with him.
2. Other Foods
With "health" out of the picture, Ron worships, and I mean worships, the act of eating. As long as it's not classified as a fruit or vegetable, Ron will eat it. Don't get him started on meat. "Do you understand?"
3. Crying (Especially in Public)
Although it sometimes feels extremely relieving, no one likes crying or dealing with other people's tears. I can guarantee there is no one who agrees more with you on this subject than Ron.
4. Drinking And Alcohol
After a long week (for those over the age of 21, of course) there's nothing like kicking back and relaxing with a drink in hand. Maybe your way of unwinding is going out with friends, rather than sitting around. Either way, if there's alcohol involved, you'd better believe Ron Swanson is too.
5. Being Sick
Whether it be something as serious as chicken pox or as minor as a cold, there is no such thing as 'comfortably sick.' For Ron, sickness is the same as weakness; and he'd rather be dead than weak. He might be taking this one a little far, but can you name a time you've been sick and not told yourself, your family and your friends, "I think I'm dying"?
6. Other People
Even if you claim you're a 'people person,' everyone has their moments. By moments, I'm referring to the feeling of absolute dread towards communicating with other people. For some people (Ron included), that feeling of dread is around all the time.

7. (And FINALLY) America
I don't mean to offend anyone here, but it's likely that no one will ever be able to match Ron's (although fictional) serious and undying love for the United States of America. In the seven season long series, Ron emphasizes how his love for food and guns are accepted and made possible by the beautiful U.S., and absolutely nowhere else in this world.
In the end, we are all a little more Ron Swanson than we might know. With that, happy birthday America!
