2017 has been nothing if not eventful.

As the year comes to a close, I'd say it's about time to look back and reflect on a few of the crazy and important things that have happened in this past calendar year. Who knows, maybe someday this article will be used as some kind of historical primary source.

In any case, here are 5 of some of the most interesting/concerning/and amazing things that happened this year.

1. Arctic Sea ice reached a new low

Ok, so this may not seem exciting and/or important but hear me out. This year, it has been recorded that the Arctic formed about 753,000 square miles LESS than normal. This is an area the size of Mexico. I don't know about you but I find that A TAD concerning. Still, don't believe in global climate change? Please refer yourself to my previous article on the topic.

2. Taylor Swift's comeback

Wow, safe to say this article has taken a turn for the BETTER. Taylor's new album Reputation sold 1.2 million-plus copies in one. single. week. This made Reputation the MOST popular and fastest selling album of 2017. Honestly, I don't care what a single soul has to say. Taylor Swift is BACK and BETTER than ever.

3. Bodak Yellow

I feel like this one truly honestly goes without saying. Cardi B's release of Bodak Yellow on June 16, 2017, took the world by storm and launched her from an upcoming rap star to one of the biggest celebrities of 2017. Her song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for an astounding three weeks making her the second EVER female rapper to top the chart with a solo. AMAZING. She IS thriving, safe to say.

4. The Women's March

The Women's March which took place on January 21, 2017, was a worldwide protest that advocated for legislation regarding, women's rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, etc. This protest was one of the largest and most widespread of its kind. This progressive movement in the wake of Donald Trump's inauguration told the world that the movement towards equality for all would not be silenced.

5. Keeping Up With the Kardashians

For those of you who live under a rock or have chosen to ignore the cultural masterpiece that is the Kardashians, this year the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians celebrated a crazy 10 years on air. Despite all of the haters talking about how much they dislike the Kardashians, it's evident now more than ever that the world can't get enough.

I recognize that this list may not include the most important events of 2017, but these are some things I certainly don't plan to forget.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
