I have been writing in a journal for more than 10 years. It started with writing about silly drama in school or a cute boy I had a crush on, but now it's so much more than that.

Journaling is an outlet for me to express my feelings and emotions while also remembering moments in my life I don't want to forget.

There are so many benefits to writing in a journal. So, here's why you should keep a journal, too.

1. You can look back in time

Reading your old journal entries can bring back memories that you want to relive. By detailing your favorite moments in life, later on you'll be able to look back and remember the good times. Write about a special day, or something kind someone did for you. If you're having a bad day, you can read these happy entries and remember that good times are bound to return.

2. It gets a weight off your shoulders

Don't keep your emotions bottled up inside. It just isn't healthy. Instead, write about your feelings and by doing so, you can process them in a healthier way. Keeping a journal can be so therapeutic. Is something bothering you? Write it down. Get the negativity out of your system and you will feel so much lighter.

3. It keeps your creativity flowing

Writing forces you to open your mind and be creative with yourself. You can press flowers in your journal, glue in clippings of your favorite magazines, or photos you have taken. Expand your imagination and be creative with your journal.

4. You can hold yourself to goals

Write down things you want to do in life. Future you can look back and read these entries and be reminded of the things past you wanted to do. You can be happy and excited that you have accomplished these goals. Or, you can be motivated to continue pursuing things you haven't gotten the chance to quite yet.

5. It brings out the writer in you

There should be no pressure when writing in a journal. No one is there to criticize your writing and tell you what you need to do. You have the ability to focus on your voice! While doing so, you'll increase your writing skills.

6. You can write anyway you’d like

Unlike writing in school, you're free to write about anything your heart desires. The possibilities are endless. My favorite thing is to write down my favorite quotes. Looking back at these quotes, I remember the emotions I was feeling at that time. You can write about your daily experiences, jot down things you're grateful for, or things that inspire you.

There are so many ways to keep a journal. Whether it be in a notebook, in the notes on your phone, an app, or a private blog. Or, if you're not the writing type, think about keeping a sketchbook. Drawings can have the same effect as writing.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
