In today's world, especially in 2016, it's no wonder that we live in a constant state of terror.
No matter how much we pray and how careful we are, we are never truly safe. Places such as churches, schools, streets, movie theaters and malls have turned into battlegrounds. We can no longer enjoy the simple pleasures in life without feeling threatened and fearful for our safety.
As we continue to mourn and cope, as we continue to be angry and confused with the perpetrators of such terrible acts, we must remember one thing, the only thing in this world that can combat hate is love.
They want us to hate them. They want us to give in, to throw in the towel — they want to get inside our heads. They want us to hate one another, to turn our backs on our neighbors, to turn our backs on our beliefs, on our country.
That's why we must love. We must love those we have lost. We must love one another. We must love one another enough to protect each other, to put our lives on the line for what is right. Love conquers all things. So when people say that others throw the word "love" around too nonchalantly, I say bullsh*t.
We should use love as a super power. We should use it to fight against the hate and evil in this world in an effort to save the world as we know it. Love is dying, and we are letting hate and anger inside of our hearts. Our world is turning ugly because we've forgotten how to love.
In Mark 12:31, Jesus explains the Greatest Commandment to the teachers of the law, proclaiming that you should, "Love your neighbor as yourself." This is what we're losing sight of.
We are so preoccupied with our own lives, all we do is acknowledge the horror of these events and carry on with our day-to-day lives. But we can't just sit back and wait for terror to strike in our own lives for us to take action. Instead, we must love unconditionally — we must do all that we can to help. For a peaceful tomorrow, we must love today.
Lastly, to anyone affected by the most recent terror tragedy in Nice, France, know that your brothers and sisters in America stand with you in solidarity today and every day. We are with you, we are thinking of you and we love you. #PrayForNice
