As a college student, I often hear that out of the three main priorities (working out, making good grades and having a social life) we can only have two. If you’re fit and have good grades, you probably have no life. If you’re seeing your friends often and making A’s, you’re probably fat. Or if you’re leading a healthy life and going out a good amount, then you’re probably failing out of school.

Any way you spin it—there’s seemingly an inevitable downside.
But what if this isn’t really the case? What if there is a way for you to make grades you can be proud of, maintain a body that makes you happy and lead a social life that is totally full?
I am here to tell you there is a way to do all of these things, and the key to it all is time management. Now I know how cliché and silly this may sound, but it really is the key to a healthy balance in life.
Instead of cramming for a test the two days before, as soon as you get your syllabi make a schedule and ration out time each day for the weeks leading up to the test to prepare. This will help you to stress less and have more time to do the things you want.
You don’t have to work out every single day, but maybe try to incorporate more fitness into your day to day. So walk to class instead of driving, go for a run here and there or even get some friends together to play a sport outside every once in a while. These things may seem small, but they really do make a huge difference in overall health.
And let’s face it—as much as we wish we could go out every night of the week, this isn’t what makes a social life healthy or full. Go out and have fun when you can, but aim to do things with good friends that will create memories like going to concerts, going on out of town trips or even things as simple as making dinner together. These are the things that will define your college experience that you will remember after it’s all said and done.
These all may seem like small things, but if we do all of them in combination with one another it will seriously make a world of difference.
I am a huge proponent of this because I think that we are so blessed to be where we are, and to close ourselves off to the idea of “having it all” is just silly.
I mean come on, we’re in college! We are constantly surrounded with amazing people all aiming to do amazing things in an amazing place. We should do everything we possibly can to take advantage of our situation.
So to me, there really is a way to do everything we want to do in the time we are offered. If we can just plan it out and be a little smarter about our time, I truly believe that we can have it all.
