It's a typical routine: coming home with your boots in hand, laughing and stumbling up to the doorway, playing who can get their key out first, getting into the kitchen, whispering and laughing about what he’s been texting you, complaining about how your feet hurt and just how bad those guys were at dancing, slamming your Taco Bell bags on the table and not even feeling guilty because you both agreed your diets are starting tomorrow, still laughing, and then realizing something. You’ve spent all this time worrying about boys, and boyfriends, when you’ve had your other half right in front of you this whole time -- your girlfriends.
It takes some girls longer than others to understand the importance of their girlfriends. Let's be real, we all have had or still have those friends who are so incredibly obsessed and infatuated with their boyfriends that they never make time for you. They all think they’re going to get married and live happily ever after with this guy they've known for five months. Then there comes the terrible day when her little world comes crashing down because he’s talking to Sally Sue and leaving her behind. A true girlfriend will be there no matter how much you pushed her away. She’ll sit on your bedroom floor, wipe your tears and go on and on about how you’re way prettier then Sally Sue and that he doesn’t deserve a great girl like you. We all need these eye-opening moments, because let's face it, boys are mean and it takes more then one heartbreak to find "the one."
Girlfriends are there through it all. They’re there for the shopping trips, to drive around the metroplex with you just so you can use your Kendra birthday month discount at every location possible. They’re there to get ready with and to have a night out on the town, and by town I mean whatever fraternity is having a party that night. They’re there for borrowing clothes, makeup, accessories, (and let me tell you, having a roommate who wears the same size shoes as you is definitely a plus) even without asking. They’re there for the gossip and the Twitter fights; to favorite the subtweets you both know are about you (duh). They’re there to help better you as well, to sit at the library until you are both delusional and just laughing at everything, not getting any studying done whatsoever.
Girlfriends are there through the bad times too. Not even just the boy problems (even though that's always an ongoing struggle), but just life. When you're both so stressed about your grades, your money (or lack thereof) work issues, family problems, anything and everything, they've got your back. Even if they can't directly relate, they'll nod their head, listen to your bitching rampage and then offer ice cream and cookies followed with wine and a movie night.
They’re even there when they’re not physically there. A phone call away, a FaceTime away, it doesn’t matter. They are those friends who make you laugh hysterically when you’re in public on your phone, texting back like a mad woman because she's giving you the play-by-play of what she did last night, and let's be honest, it's never good. Miles away doesn’t keep true friends from staying in touch, and still knowing each others' friend groups well enough to agree that Jenny doesn’t need to be talking with Robert again, even though you’ve never actually met them in real life.
Boys come and go, but girlfriends are here to stay.I strongly believe your soul mates are your girlfriends and boys are just there to have fun with. So remember, always confide in your girlfriends, always hold their hair back, and always offer up your favorite top in exchange for her white converse. Always make time for your girlfriends, and thank them for putting up with you. Never let a second go to waste. Cherish your memories with your girls, and of course document it all on Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter (if it's not on the Internet did it even happen?). Most of all, just love your girls because after all, you’re going to need bridesmaids one day!
