Disney Animation is marketed towards kids and their vast imagination. Meanwhile, there is no doubt, Disney isn’t just for kids, but adults as well. There is adult humor in their movies and shows. In addition, you grew up with them, so you have a connection since your own childhood.
It even goes deep than a favorite move, but a favorite character. A character you see as yourself, that encompasses your personality traits and may even look like you. You even have the opportunity to meet your twin or role model in person at one of their theme parks. Even though it is a fictional person, they give you every opportunity to make it seem real.
I never connected with any of the princesses. I was a stubborn tomboy who liked to help people. With our matching blonde buns, I found a likeness in Tinkerbell. She was magical, positive, beautiful, independent, a tinker and so much like me.
I never looked up to any famous people or got into pop culture. When I was lazy I looked at my Tinkerbell keychain knowing she is a hard worker and that is what I should strive to be. When I was down I would watch Peter Pan and laugh when Tink was clumsy, knowing I am the same way. When I need motivation, I would look at the picture when I met her at Disney World. It was the best day of my life because she was so perfect and my dreams came true.
Though Disney characters are only fictional, the impact they have on children and adults is astounding. I can attest to this amazing company and fictional character making. They still make dreams come true.
